Olympia

Once called the “Last Frontier” few have managed to create colonies or even survive within the lands of Olymia. Once rumored to be inhabited by the Four Seasons Courts during the Age of Fae, Olymia was once part of a vast continent as the rivers have shown us. However, now the continent has shrunk to nearly what we believe to be an eighth of its former glory. It now stands as the most dangerous and inhospitable land known to the world at large.

Geography

While much of Olymia is filled with forested and fertile grounds, the deserts and icy mountain peaks are some of the worst in the world. With the deserts causing one to catch on fire just from walking about, to the icy peaks of ThriKing’s Blessing that would give a frost jotun a chill. Truly a terrifying land that has seen few willing to attempt living within it. Made even worse by the constant influx of Apex and Lesser Apex Monsters traversing the lands. Truly the continent is not for those who come unprepared, as with few towns in between one can easily find themselves in a monster's territory without a ration to eat.

Notable Mountains

With four massive mountains believed to be the key points in ancient ritual to seal The Last Thought. And a mountain range that is confirmed to have once been a powerful Apex Monsters own exoskeleton. The continent of Olymia is drenched in historical events that few of our researchers have yet to uncover.

The Deep Gate
A mountain in the south eastern portion of the continent, The Deep Gate stands as the Toth species capital. Having gained its name from the massive openings into The Deep Dark that reside at its lowest levels. It is believed that this in combination with the large amount of easily accessible death ore, is the reason the Toth were drawn to such a land. It is also believed that like the other three lonely mountains, The Deep Gate acts as one of four points to the ancient seal that keeps The Last Thought beneath the world. Though we know this to be fully nothing more than a prophetic dream from a now dead age.

The Thoughtless Mountain
The name given to the mountain north of Seji’s Retreat, this mountain is well known for its massive colorium ore deposits. However, it gains its name from the unique feature of a strange greyish metal that can only be found near the molten top. This metal is said to cause those who get near it to become confused, almost as if they had forgotten the purpose of being there. We are not sure if this is due to the active volcanos lava causing the colorium to mix, or if this is another form of colorium altogether. Regardless, the mountain is considered highly dangerous as it acts as a sort of “Pride Rock” location for the most powerful monsters in the land. Thus those mining companies that inhabit its base, tend to hire quite capable adventurers to keep it defended.

The Iron Spine of the First ThriKing
Though fully disproven in the fact that it was not a ThriKing but rather an Apex Monster insectoid. The mountain range of the western part of the continent is confirmed to be the final resting place of Iron Spine. A monster who may or may not have created the ThriKreen species from its corpse. Or as other researchers believe, it could have instead caused them to surface from an already inhabited Deep Dark layer with the smell of blood. In either case, this has led to many insectoid species seemingly being drawn to the mountain range. And caused many an adventurers untimely demise as if the thrikreen do not get you, the spiders, slugs, or formian like species will.

The Worn Mountain
Named this for its separation from the Iron Spine mountain range, the Worn Mountain is also well known for its many external cave entrances. Appearing to many who pass by it as if a massive termite stronghold had poked into the horizon. This mountain stands as one of the most dangerous in the world with its lower portions inhabited by powerful thrikreen. While the outer and upper areas are filled with devastating and lesser apex insectoid monsters. All of which seem to constantly be vying for territory and more food, finding many adventurers hoping to slay them as a quick snack on their way.

ThriKings Blessing
Said to be the mountain where the first ThriKing was born, every ThriKing after is said to have had their hive within at one point or another for legitimacy. The mountain externally looks no different than those of the icy peaks of Hrimpursar’s Last Hold. However, internally the mountain finds itself as a lush forest filled with exotic insects and foods to devour. With rivers flowing from its icy peaks, the water is infused with death ore causing many of the thrikreen born here to grow far stronger than their eastern cousins. As the last mountain on the far western point, it's hard to miss it once you pass the Iron Spine mountain range. However, good luck getting close as the forest and mountain itself are infested with powerful thrikreen patrols and other insectoid species.

Notable Rivers

With three major rivers across the continent itself, Olymia only has one river that was said to be created naturally. That being the Seasons Last or as it was once known The Hrimpursar Season’s Line. Supposedly named after a jotun-like fae court that had risen to power at the time. The other two rivers find themselves either created by the power of Apex Monsters or crafted for the purposes of increasing one's own population through food gathering. Uniquely, Olymia is also the first continent in which we believe the rivers prove that one many of the known continents were connected.

The Stone Crown
Believed to have been created when the Apex Monster known as Stone landed upon the continent itself. With the impact being so powerful that it left a crater where now the river surrounds. As Stone would begin to walk, the ground itself was said to pull up from the crater and create the river we see today. The truth is, we actually have no idea how this river formed as no natural reason has presented itself in our research. However, the river itself is quite tame, with its deep depths going far beyond any of our druid or nature casters ability to dive. And infested with fish that allow if tamed, one to investigate to certain depths through climbing into their mouths air sacks. Beyond this, much of the river's edges are dotted with cobolt ore veins causing many to pan or attempt deep dives in order to mine the material.

Seasons Last
Believed to have been the last line of fortifications for one of the Four Seasons Courts back during the Age of Fae. However, while ruins and structures from the age can be found all along the river front on both sides. Olymia as a continent is not old enough to have existed historically during the Age of Fae. Unless the continent we are seeing today is a much smaller broken away piece of a more massive continent that no longer exists, or as many have speculated it is indeed a piece of Selmic or Celsica. In either case the river itself is noted to be quite tame and easy to travel up and down. With many of the troll merchants using it to move large beasts or amounts of material closer to Seji’s Retreat in record time.

Wave Slayer’s Landing
Said to be named after one of the early thrikreen hives that appeared on the continent. The hive was well known for only hunting aquatic creatures and diving the greatest depths to capture the strongest prey. It is said the hive began digging out the river in hopes of trapping more aquatic prey which is why much of the river is filled with sharp rocks or natural coves to get caught in. With rapid speeds that are dizzying to travel in the best conditions, many creatures that find themselves within the current end up beaten to death upon its rocks until the body washed up on either side. Though these days the outer edges are used by a younger and weaker kraken species called the Qad to lure in prey. Much of the river is still filled with young swallowers who know how to traverse the deeper portions of the river and avoid the rapid speeds.

Notable Deserts

One of the cruelest deserts in the world, Olymia truly lives up to its name of not allowing any frontier town to be built easily. The desert of Olymia is only able to be inhabited by monsters, thrikreen and the truly desperate. One should attempt to avoid the deserts here at any cost, for one never knows if they are flammable until they are engulfed in flame.

The Flameson Desert
A long desert that follows the spine of The Iron Spine mountain range on either side. The desert is well known for its orangish yellow coloration and spontaneous flames erupting all about. As the desert heats up to nearly 195f during the days almost year round and cools to a nice 125f at night. Thus the desert is well known for burning up nearly anything that lives within, while the flameson itself that is mixed with the heavy amount or iron sand tends to erupt into flame quite often. Thus the desert is not often traversed by foot, for fear of spontaneous flame eruption.

Political History

Though we know little of its history beyond The First Age itself, the continent is said to have once been quite massive and steeped in bloody conflict. With rumors of The Last Thought having been sealed beneath it, many look to the land as the final point of any mages research on the Fae themselves.
The known history is far less interesting, with the beginning of the Toths arrival on the continent sometime during the early days of The First Age. Some believe them to be a remnant from the Age of Fae or Clouded Age, though no real proof of exactly when they showed up has ever been found. However upon their arrival, they would quickly enslave the local primitive trolls which would later give rise to Seji’s own people. While the Toth experimented, the trolls grew intelligent, and the thrikreen landed unknowingly in the far western lands. Hidden behind the mountains the thrikreen would grow in number quite quickly before a civil war between hives was said to begin. Eventually forcing those who lost to another plane of existence or so goes one of the researchers' historical accounts. As you will find that much of Olymia’s history is truly theory rather than proven fact. This is due to the issue that the Toth refuse to allow any outsider within their historical records. While the other known species of the land have either had their information destroyed, or never bothered to record it in the first place.

Ecology

With much of the land still wild and untamed, many of the local species are believed to be from their more primitive stages. Thus both the plant life and wild beasts should be considered above average in danger categories and not traveled by new adventurers. However, for those who are seasoned, much of the land gives a unique opportunity with creatures that fetch quite high prices or could make a major difference in your own travels.

Foundational Flora

Uniquely much of the dominant flora of the continent while more dangerous for the predatorial plants. Many of the “normal” plants are actually quite delicious and have evolved to be able to be harvested or farmed. With spice leaf being the only exception which as we have confirmed evolved to keep other creatures from eating it, while trolls unfortunately would love the taste of it and later farm it for its spice. The rest of the land is covered in the most prominent food that you would find across the world, from breadfruit to the einkorn and thi-kreen root.

Foundational Fauna

With most beasts of the land being able to use mana techniques for teleportation or even plane travel. The land seems to prove that the ability to run away or out maneuver one's prey is the most valuable on the continent. Thus many of the predators of the continent are known to teleport short distances to confuse their prey while the prey will jump into the realm of elements or shadows as needed to escape. However on the other side of the evolutionary track is the unique species that evolve to assist more intelligent beings in the area. With examples like the Swallowers, Potion Kreen, and Merlocks who all attempt to either work with nearby local settlements or have evolved to be tameable and thus more useful alive.

Temperature

Typically on the colder side towards the coastlines, much of the continent finds itself around a nice 45f to 75f throughout the seasons. With The Flameson Desert being the only exception as well as the mountains within it. As it is believed to never drop below 125f or at least has not in the last ten years that researchers have been studying it. The rest of the lands find themselves warmer the closer you get to the desert, but colder the closer to the rivers or coast you travel. This is believed to be in part from the desert heat radiating out but as well the cold water current from the depths rising up and bringing with it many dangerous beasts.

Seasonal Variations

With Olymia seeing in its eastern points the same weather and seasonal variation as the most western points of Crakec. Typically the rest of the continent will see the seasonal change within a three to ten days the further west you go. However it should be noted that during even the harshest winters, it is still almost like a perfect clear summer sky around The Flameson Desert.
