Monster Name and/or title:
"The Bone Baker", "The Ruinous Eye", "The Mother's Lucky Third".Monster type:
AberrationMonster Base species:
Elder OrbDanger Classification:
S+, for epic spell abilitiesDiet:
Spiders named "Starry", Metallic and Gemstone Dragons, Other HivekinsAbility Scores:
STR 25, DEX 32, CON 25, INT 35, WIS 15, CHA 25Alignment:
Neutral Evil, though uncaring the creature is extremely paranoid and has an immense overconfidence of its ability.Temperament:
Being both insane and powerful is a dangerous problem for any nation. Mel is powerful, insane, and over confident in his ability with the intelligence to back it up. His wisdom only lessened due to his immense success record of propping up merchant groups and adventurers that assist in his plans. The only thing this creature seems to fear more than.... well, everything seems to be that of the symbol of stars and spiders. Though it is unknown why, one of the researchers had a pet spider named "Starry", for its star pattern on its back. And Mel went from calmly talking through a brown dragon, to assaulting the island with holy and divine powers we have never seen before. Starry, I am sad to report I did not make it. RIP our beloved spider.Classes:
(Natural) 10 Beholder Mage, 20 Duskblade, 5 Knight of the Sacred SealSpecial qualities:
Dragon Familiar:
A Very Old Brown Dragon who has sworn his clan to Mel "The Bone Baker" acting as his body guards and servants. Many serve his beliefs and plots out of a similar view, but few dare to question his power. The large clan of nearly fourty five seem to be at his beck and call. Clan Jerishiki as they were once known now call themselves "Clan of Baker".Known Weaknesses:
The creature appears to be extremely paranoid and shy, refusing to see others. It is assumed with his beliefs of his personal greatness and all others being beneath him has made him paranoid. Believing that all would want his death for his superiorness. Thus, little is known of the creature other then his "hive" moves as a smaller floating island. Covered in tall white scaled trees that seem to wither and die at different times.Unique Spells:
Greater Ruin
A spell said to disinitegrate anything within Mel's sight. What is scariest as researchers would find out, as well as my team who are no longer with us. It seems that unlike The Pale Eyed, who relies on his "ocular hammer ability", Mel has removed his main eye in favor of a red death ore gemstone that he has manipulated as an "Arcane Eye". This eye allows him to instead cast Greater Ruin as if it was Ocular Hammer, and to great effect amongst those who see it. I myself found that the creature took a portion of right index finger when I was caught unaware. Thus beforewarned, this creature is not to be trifled with.Bone Baker
For those of you thinking, I will be fine, the Ruin spell cannot overcome my lifelong healthy habits. Allow me to introduce what we came to understand as the true danger. A spell that instantly paralyzing those to weak to overcome the creatures arcane grapple. Once stuck, your body begins to cook from the inside, baking your bones to an immense pain. Researchers who fell to this would describe it "As if mors itself was cooking my insides". Before perishing after another six seconds, there bodies fully cooked from the inside and the bones turned into a strong stone like substance.Known Magic items:
Deck of the Many Chosen Meadmancer
Similar to a deck of many things, though this item allows its user to draw from it endlessly. Though in exchange it is said that each time the deck is used it has a 50% (1d100, 1-50) chance to cause the user a condition. As one example, if the user drew from this and they where exhausted, they could get further exhausted from the drawing and suddenly find themselves dead. Though risky, the item seems to be quite powerful, even granting the user powers like "Miracle".The Invulnerable Coat of Zonde
A coat that is said to give its wearer heavy armor though as if it where light. Glimmering in its appearance with its multiple stars across it. The wielder seems to gain a epic damage reduction when slicing into it with normal or magic items. As if a wound that was twelve inches deep only landed two instead. The creature seems to be resistant to acidc, cold, electricity, fire and even sonic energy spells. And even has the soul of an ancient cleric of the Law Bearer of Destruction that allows it to use Turn Undead like the strongest cleric.Amongst many multitudes of minor to medium magic items. As well as a strangly large art collection of nobility from all around the world.
Harvestable Materials:
Identical to The Pale Eyed, but with normal eye stalks, and an arcane death ore gemstone eye (Survival DC 45 if not caster, if caster Will save DC 50 to not be charmed)History:
While at one time having been a creature who preferred the deep country of the southern continent of the world. Mel "The Bone Baker" in recent history is said to have left his home and taken over a new island that had been discovered. Though I should note, like all I will explain below, little is truly known of this creature due to its extreme paranoia. Having faked its own death multiple times throughout history. Creating spawn for itself to take over once killed, or even to fool those hunting it into hunting them instead. Thus, little can be trusted, and what you read above should be assumed to be only a modern variant of the same creature.Said to have been born when the world was young, similar to Cerseki "The God Eyed" and The Pale Eyed, Mel "The Bone Baker", who had yet to gain his name comes from the clouded age. Of the three we are not sure if Mel was born from either the other two or an older unknown Hivekin simply called "Mother”. But what is confirmed is that while Cerseki worked the younger primitive races to worship him, The Pale Eyed would spend his time tomb delving, Mel would instead spend his time exploring. Having taken up root amongst a large bufoni clan who served deep within the southern continent. It is said that here a spawning pool was created by Mel who would learn the chaos magic of the bufoni who used it. Protecting them while they spawned with each other, almost as if a mutualistic relationship in the wild.
From here it is said that Mel would learn his ancient Bone Baker spell and replace his eye with a death ore gemstone. Many researchers believe only with bufoni magic could a creature be created with such a foul power. Regardless, once Mel had gained what he needed, it is said he took the remaining bufoni as his worshippers and one by one sacrificed them to himself. Gaining immense power to give the demonfolk of the time, pause. Though not for long, Mel would find himself continuously under siege by the creatures until the end of the Clouded Age. At which point it is said they had forgotten about him.
We do not truly know what happened after this, however at certain points throughout the fall of the elder demons. And the rise of dragons and Jotuns, the Hivekin now known as Mel "The Bone Baker" by the Jotuns. Would begin to pop up all around the world creating strange skeleton castles that would burrow deep into the underdark. Only after a continuous purge with the effort of Jotuns like Uthem Grunaga, Hrotun "Grand Hammer", Domnandr "Big Fist", and many others. The multitude of Bone Bakers would be removed from the world and simply stripped from the history books.
From there it is believed that he abandoned his stronghold far in the southern untamed lands, yet explored by modern adventurers. Taking up root both amongst the Cryptic Kabal, but as well as in the floating island deemed "White Tree Island".
