HelioVoli (Aasimar)

Language: Enochian

General Information

Known as “God Born” in common, the species of the HelioVoli are said to share two names, one from the demon-folk and one from the fae of old. Helio which in demonic translates as “Those born as the accursed” and Voli which in many fae dialects translates to “Born of the hated seed”. Neither a pleasant name in truth but both rather accurate for how many cultures saw them. For the HelioVoli were not a species but rather a people of sorts. Those who had been blessed by the gods with portions of their visage and power. While not all HelioVoli would look exactly like the god that blessed them with power, many would inherit specific appearances. Examples such as a snow beard born of The Law Bearer of Undeath’s own blessing may have grey skin, grow quite tall and have a natural affinity for necromancer based mana techniques. Thus the people would find themselves either shunned as curses, signs of adultery, or in some rare cases worshipped if the village believed in that being. Thus the term would be given and a culture of those who refused to live within nations that judged or used them would eventually come to rise.

Cities

Here we will show the maps of the kingdoms, duchies and lands throughout each of the ages.

Wormwood Rest

Said to be far to the west of the majority of the ores within the territory. Wormwoods Rest finds itself on top of the resting place of a forgotten elemental being, said to have once been a gloom dragon that had been slain by a powerful raider from the storm Jotun lands. The city now specializes in harvesting and crafting magical items with dragon products. Having a large Deep Dark entrance at the center of the mountain, the city seems to have adapted to send squads down daily with large parades and feasts happening for those lucky few who return. The city is said to be home to all those who had lost their gods or whose masters had failed to become truly divine in nature. With the vast amount of the city designed to fit the more practical and simplistic design, little art or creativity can be found within the nation.
The city is considered by many traveling smiths as "The Copy Cat" city for its ability to see any craft and replicate it instantly, however never being able to design an original piece. The city is also oddly known for its rare breed of mimic cats that have grown to live amongst humans feeding on scraps of metal and occasional lesser magic items.

Technology periods

Here we shall discuss the main technological discoveries by this race.

The Copy Cat Nation

Legendary are those who live amongst the HelioVoli in the smithing world, for they are masters of all crafts that they see but none that are new. Thus, making the nation a unique class of replicas that cannot copy other HelioVoli but only the arts of those who are the same species as their divine visages. The HelioVoli are said to be one of the few species gifted with such a high degree of understanding that anyone can teach them the most complicated craft, however if you expect for the craft to continue beyond what you can teach, you will find yourself like many other hopeful smiths, disappointed and wanting for more.

Divine Runes

While the concept is not yet fully understood, it has been confirmed that each domain of the gods has its own specific language. Many are simple and designed more for the intent of keeping spells secret or church holy texts unreadable to outside eyes. The languages are said to be completely unreadable to those outside the blessed domain of that god. With this reasoning, many if not all heliovoli can outright use divine mana techniques and spells even without serving a god. This is partially due to their “god born” bloodlines that allows them to freely cast not unlike many sorcerers. As well as due to their ability to understand the language of the spells themselves and give mana its form through the divine wording. In a sense, each heliovoli is both a god and not at all one.

Hierarchy

Here we shall discuss how the overall ladder of power is designed in this race’s territories.

Regin

After the conquest of Og Brightwing against the majority of the lesser groups of HelioVoli that had gathered together, it is said that Og would declare the Storm Jotun the righteous born to the world and adapt many of their terms.

Vikingr

While the Storm Jotun once used this name to define those who took up the life of conquerors and raiders. The HelioVoli learned early on that the term could mean something far grander. When a group of seventeen mountain jotun would manage to defend and hold a village against a large demon-folk incursion. The mountain jotun in truth had shown up to attack the village of helpless future slaves, however instead when the demon-folk army arrived they saw a far greater prey. With multiple members of the army having valuable magical items crafted from the most powerful smiths of the time. Well, let's just say the Vikingr crew called “The Last Nights” would go on to become heroes redefining a role throughout culture. Though only three of the Vikingr would survive, those three chose to stay behind and instead protect the village in honor of the fallen warriors. Thus forever engraving the term to mean “Heroic Knights of Wealth” amongst the HelioVoli.

Drengr

As mentioned above, the term Drengr would be similar to Vikingr in becoming known to the HelioVoli via “The Last Nights” vikingr crew. As one of the three surviving members of the raiders was said to have yet to be recognized fully as a Vikingr amongst them. Instead being called Drengr Bjarnfallur “Gold Eye Cracker” of clan Grunaga, a known warrior who would later go on to found the Grunaga bloodline according to some sources. The term would roughly translate into common as “Grand Warrior” or “One who is capable with shield”.

Prott-Lauss

Commonly translated as “Those Marked by Chains”, the individuals with this title often have chain tattoos below the eyes. The term roughly refers to those enslaved or not recognized as “people” amongst the HelioVoli. Though uncommon, it can also be used to mark those of their own people who have fallen out of grace such as the house of Serephim. However, it is most often instead used for those who serve the many HelioVoli clans as common slaves.

Nobility

Here we shall discuss notable noble houses through the time periods.

Regin Og Brightwing

The first leader of the HelioVoli in the lands of Silencia. Created by Ogeron himself in order to lead armies of HelioVoli against his sons. Brightwing would later get his name during a battle against Faltharn's Shields of New Mana. In which his wings were set aflame as he charged the ranks of the rebels in hopes of slaying Faltharn. It is said that Og was as strong as Ogeron and even faster than the old storm jotun. Many have stated that the two looked almost as if a mirror of the past and future, with Og's impressively storm jotun features. Having stood at 24ft tall and with bright yellow lightning marks burnt to a darkened black all across his body. Og was notorious for his oath taker divine powers, having managed to slay hundreds in a carnage to gain his rank amongst the many HelioVoli who had tried to unite the lands.
With his strangely angelic and perky personality, Og is noted as having been one of the few rulers of the time to be a strong believer in physical training even amongst his knights. Keeping the nobles at the top of their physical capabilities, Og would not allow anything less to serve in his realm. A leader who when he saw interest in you, he would make you the best you can be and train you to the extreme. Many have stated that Og Brightwing was more drill instructor then king, but he ruled through the fear of what he put others through to glimpse the near irrefutable difference in ability between himself and those who served.

Military

Regin Og Brightwing

Noted as having an army of around 12,000 Vikingr, 7 lesser Regins, and around 5,000 slaves that can be mobilized.

Wars

Here we shall discuss the notable wars for each period and who they were against.

Flakka’s ó-friðr

While in common the war is known to translate roughly as “War of Wanderer’s”. Few actually know what would cause the war to begin. We do know that during The Clouded Age the Jotun had come together under a mountain jotun king named Flakka “The Wandering Conqueror”. A jotun so massive in size that he was said to dwarf most Great Wyrms. He would gain his nickname for his nomadic kingdom that traveled throughout the lands raiding for supplies over settling down.
The court of Flakka would eventually come into contact with the Bufoni-folk who offered to ferry them to the northern continent of Celsica, in exchange for them not returning to Crakec. As they agreed, the jotuns found themselves instead instantly teleported across the waves at the cost of a few of the stronger members of their clans. However, now they found themselves on a new and fresh continent with ripe targets to fight and rule over. Unfortunately for Flakka “The Wandering Conqueror”, his time on the northern continent would be short lived. For as the two forces would come into contact with each other, not a year later would Flakka learn the terrible truth. With many of his elder kin recognizing banished members of their clans amongst the HelioVoli few could deny the truth. However, as soon as word would spread, so would dissolution amongst the clans as to what to do over the discovering that the exiled were not in fact, dead.
With a single arrow it is said that Flakka “The Wandering Conqueror” three thousand year long rain of terror would end. As the arrow struck a singular member of the HelioVoli and the entirety of that species seemed to descend upon them like ravenous beasts. Flakka “The Wandering Conqueror” would fight back only to barely survive with a quarter of his forces, his body mangled and much of his sons and brothers dead or eaten alive. It would only be three days later when Flakka “The Wandering Conqueror” would succumb to both his injuries and the foreign diseases of the continent. With his death it is said that the jotun clans would scatter, some so fearful of the HelioVoli they would never return to the continent again. Thus ending the war within only twenty years of first contact with the HelioVoli.
There is a minor note for this war however that we have found with time and research. Proof that the arrow fired was not accidental and was in fact shot by a follower of “A Dark King” god. It is recorded in what we believe to be a stone tablet journal used by the surviving members of Flakka “The Wandering Conqueror” warband. With it indeed being true that a priest was seen firing the arrow. As well as confirming that the one killed was at the time, the engaged tribal leader, leaving behind his beloved to turn and slay all who dared to attack. The same beloved, rumored to be the actual mother of Og Brightwing himself.

The Chaining of the Divine

Said to have been a war started by Mov’asi and his forces after the end of The Asi Conquest. With the dragons having slain the Northern Dragon Lord of the area, many of the clans would begin to expand out their territory they had seized under Mov’asi’s orders. With such expansion came the first few contacts with the HelioVoli, who would find themselves not only slaying multiple Wyrm dragon elders. But as well coming into a strange rage inducing sickness that drove them to kill more. It is said that Mov’asi would face his first challenge with the HelioVoli as he slew hundreds of them, only to lose nearly ten times as many in the process. A species so defensively capable that he could not find an easy way to eradicate the species entirely without heavier losses on his already dwindling forces.
It is said that with no other choice, Mov’asi would turn to another who was said to be a capable sorcerer well beyond that of the High Magi. Offering whatever they could ask for, it is said that the sorcerer in question would cast a spell that offered up the lives of many slaves in exchange for a temporary charm effect on the entirety of the species. While not permanent, this was long enough for many of Mov’asi’s forces to capture the majority of the species and retreat when the spell wore off. For once it did, the HelioVoli were said to go on a killing spree, slaying forty two dragon clans entirely before the last of Mov’asi’s forces could retreat back to Crakec.
Fortunately this war would end with the Dragons under Mov’asi’s guidance fully studying the HelioVoli slaves. Eventually developing a liquid that would permanently dampen their god-like abilities and gifts. While at the same time ensuring an almost lucid like state at all times, fully accepting of any suggestions. Under Mov’asi’s supervision and guidance it is said that the HelioVoli would weaken immensely and nearly split into two separate species. As those affected by the drug over generations seem to have lost many of their gifts with few even understanding how to use the little power they still have.

The Cracking of Draconic Foundations

A war best described as a unified rebellion led by an elite group of powerful HelioVoli who had yet to lose their full gifts. It is said that through the gathering of the most influential individuals of the enslaved HelioVoli would Raguel Serephim manage to start a rebellion simultaneously across the entirety of all The Mov’asi Empire. With not only those amongst the “house slaves” managing to rise up, but many of those within the cities would manage to take control for only the briefest of moments. It is said that through this Raguel would manage to corner Mov’asi himself. As he had managed to capture many of the powerful clans' heirs within the Dragon’s Crown inner castle, holding them hostage in exchange for a fair battle.
It is said that the two forces would meet outside of Dragon’s Crown with the full expectation of Mov’asi either surrendering entirely or destroying the city itself. However instead Raguel Serephim would offer fair terms, a single battle between the two forces. The winner would have the right to decide the outcome of the HelioVoli’s future without fuss, to which many of the dragons gathered would laugh. Though Mov’asi was described as “Colder than the storm that his family was born into.”. As he accepted the terms of Raguel, expecting an easy victory but wondering what cunning trick his adversary had cooked up.
As the two forces would meet in front of the city of Dragon’s Crown, the battle would begin and quite quickly shift into Mov’asi’s favor. It is said The Battle of Mana Crown Hill would be defined by the very moment that Mov’asi believed he had misjudged his foe and committed his forces forward. For as his army clashed, easily overpowering the heliovoli forces, Raguel would launch his secret plan. For his family lineage descended from a god of great mana techniques, one in which specialized in teleportation spells. Thus as Mov’asi’s forces would rush forward to claim glory, leaving him and his bodyguards fully exposed, Raguel would summon five armies of nearly ten thousand each from across multiple cities. Enveloping Mov’asi and ensuring the battle to go in his favor, however Raguel had misjudged one factor. Mov’asi was not King of the Dragons without reason, for he and his bodyguards nearly wiped out twenty thousand HelioVoli before finally succumbing to wounds and exhaustion.
It is said that the war and battle would only end after a courier was able to get through and alert Mov’asi of another Dragon Lord's betrayal. Judging that he could not continue the battle and refusing to lose further troops, Mov’asi would grant Raguel Serephim his independence and land. However, it is said the terms were quite steep, with the promise of permanent peace and an alliance should Crakec ever come under outside attack. Few could deny that Raguel Serephim was the first and only individual to ever deal Mov’asi a proper loss. Though other historians point out it was due to his ability to use the gnolls and other slave rebellions to his advantage. As he managed to spread much of Mov’asi’s forces thin, and as many would point out, almost exhausted what little Mov’asi had left for stability.

Events/Holidays

We shall begin to discuss notable holidays and events in this culture. Explaining further on where they come from and what goes on during them.

Clouds Clearing

Supposedly a holiday based on the day The Clouded Age ended and many of the clouds themselves would vanish. Many HelioVoli point to this as the day things became more peaceful, and thus have begun to celebrate it. It is said to happen the day after the end of Swedean and the beginning of Caessinta. In which the HelioVoli celebrate the fallen’s memory by feasting and drinking until they can no longer stand.

Religious beliefs

Here we shall discuss the different religious beliefs in this race’s history throughout the periods.
With HelioVoli the religious beliefs have never really changed throughout history. Most of the time they have served the god that they descend from. However, many HelioVoli report feeling empty inside until the day they attempt to “rise” to godhood.
Interestingly, many of the HelioVoli clans, those enslaved or otherwise, seem to look upon their own kind who resemble powerful demon-folk of old as bad omens. With some going as far to even exile them as concern for their “Battle Thirst”.

Known diseases

Here we shall discuss known diseases to be active and/or discovered or cured during the different time periods of these races

Angelic corruption

The angelic corruption disease shows in most HelioVoli and those related species when their bodies start to show black tendrils all over the body. The disease begins slightly lessening the mana output and slowly increases the loss of mana to the victim. The HelioVoli eyes will go fully black, the skin will turn a pale green and if they have wings as part of the final stage the HelioVoli will lose its wings. They will start to wilt and finally break off. All that will be left when the disease runs its course is a black tendrilled, black eyed, green skinned demonic looking humanoid who is driven to madness to continue attacking anything it sees without pain or fear.

Re-aging

Although extremely rare, re-aging has been known to happen to those of the HelioVoli species. This happens when an HelioVoli hits a certain age and begins to age backwards suddenly or can suddenly become physically a random age i.e. from 76 physically to 16 in a night’s sleep. The HelioVoli is then stuck this way until they are killed or they lose all mana. At which point the body will age extremely fast and then turn to dust and mesna. A cure has yet to be found and it is unknown what causes the disease at this point.

Other Characters of note

Here we shall discuss other characters of note directly influencing this species.

Raguel Serephim

Though noted later in the book, we wanted to point out that the Serephim clan is one of the few bloodlines left with the rare ability to use “teleportation” spells. Raguel, though not entirely noted for using it often, is one of the most gifted Magi ever seen. With his ability to teleport to places he has only heard of, moving items of great rarity, and even transporting armies. Few have been noted to match him in capabilities.

Prince Forani Serephim

One of the most gifted casters the world has and will probably ever see. Forani is said to absorb knowledge about mana techniques and spells as if he were a sea sponge. During his fathers stand off with Mov’asi, it is said he managed to read and study twenty three ancient spells from The Clouded Age. With half of them already having been mastered by the young mage, few are left to wonder what such a knowledge hungry individual could do. Now the true question stands, what will Prince Forani Serephim do with such knowledge, given his common personality traits of being described as a “Fox with snake eyes.”.

Jehosphat “The Bright”

A mage who is said to have invented his own school of mana techniques using only light based spells. Jehosphat is both a master of the elemental plane of fire, but has the rare gift of plane traveling. Having descended from an ancient god that was said to rule over all elements, Jehosphat can seemingly freely travel wherever he wishes in the other planes. He is said to not only be a gifted adventurer due to this, but also a dangerous mage with unique and rare spells only learned through the understanding of elemental purity. Jehosphat is the right hand of Raguel Serephim and has served him loyally for years. However, now that the war has been won and lands established, will such a greedy and capable individual truly stay quiet forever?

Hanses “The Dark Gem”

A heavily tattooed warrior and spellsword, Hanses “The Dark Gem” would gain his name for slaying three old adult dragons in a single battle. Using his famous blade “The Gem Storm”, commonly known from the demon-folk “Dagoon The Scale Carver” who would terrorize and hunt dragons in The Clouded Age as if it was a sport. The blade is said to be incredibly cursed for those who have no hatred of dragon kind. But for those that do, the blade is said to grant great gifts of prowess and power. Thus Hanses would find himself cornered by three blue scaled dragons of the Asi clan. Though just as quickly, those dragons would find themselves beheaded and their blood raining down on the already mad heliovoli. It is said that Hanses was one of the few fighters from The Battle of Manas Crown Hill that was able to escape the “red mist” of Angelic Corruption. Though not without side effects, as many note him as being easy to anger and quick to fight.

Anatomy

Here we shall both provide a design as well as an explanation of the anatomy of the race in question.

Ability score increase

Based on the god themselves that creates you or that you worship under will define what bonus they give you.

Age

If left alone and without fatal injury it is believed that HelioVoli are practically immortal and shall only die at the god’s behest.

Phenotypes

HelioVoli generally come with a white to bluish skin tone, some have wings depending on the god they serve. HelioVoli eyes are typically in line with the gods own eye color, and lastly, they tend to bear markings of their god all over their bodies.

Height and Weight

A typical HelioVoli is said to be born in the bloodline founder's image. Thus many will share a singular common trait with that god, while then the rest being as normal between two parents. It is said that due this, many in the early days of the heliovoli, would be killed due to concerns of infidelity.

Alignment

HelioVoli take on the same alignment as the founder of their bloodline most often. However, in some cases, few are allowed to stray, while others can be punished or even lose their powers should they stray.

Speed

With a base walking speed of 30ft and a base flying speed of 45ft.

Founding

Here we shall explain when the race came to be, how it came to be, and whom it is credited to and where.
It is believed that the HelioVoli were first discovered during The Clouded Age. This is further reinforced by the fact that many of the Fae Courts kept extensive records of bloodlines and appearances. And while not many sources have been discovered of the Age of Fae. The few we do have and translated, do not mention any individuals born with strange appearances of quirks. Thus we can only assume The Clouded Age was the first time they would appear.
With the appearance and discovery, it is said that the demon-folk and bufoni-folk would be the first to discover the species. With few amongst them even joining their ranks due to the strange affliction on the world. Rumors of demon-folk males and females being attacked by gods and divine entities would cause many born with their appearances to be exiled or outright killed in the early days. Even the bufoni-folk would suffer, with many of their own HelioVoli being strange amalgamations of lawful or neutral energies.
Eventually enough of the species is said to have been born amongst the demon-folk, jotun clans, bufon-folk and beastfolk that they would gather and form small tribes. Many noted that they found themselves drawn to one another who shared common ancestry, regardless of their species. While we would like to say that they all gathered and lived in harmony, in truth they were still just as violent as before. The only difference now was, many were religious and followed orders from established shamans and leaders who spoke for the god they descended from. Thus many would go to war with other HelioVoli tribes over hatred or godly disputes. It is even reported that the reason for the Jotun attacking the HelioVoli was due to the hatred from Tensub or “A Dark King” of the other gods divinely gifts. As well as the lack of any HelioVoli being born of his own lineage as wherever his seeds had planted, nothing would grow from the eternal darkness.
