Griffon Academy
The infamous air cavalry for the empire. Part of the City Guard, it’s a militia organization made up of soldiers responsible for defending and patrolling the Great Citadel. Sometimes, if the event called for it, they would send the cavalry out on battles where the tide needed helping. One such event happened Aventail.
"People think we flew high over the city to avoid weather vanes and laundry lines and whatnot. Truth is, if the griffons smelled how much horse meat trotted just below, folks would have worse than joy-flying mages and stirges to worry about."In both martial displays and in real battles against flying threats such as manticores, harpies, and outlaw wizards, the griffon riders actually leap off their mounts into the open air! For a breath-stealing moment, they fall like stones, closing in on their targets at incredible speed. Their opponents rarely see the death blow, distracted as they are by other mounted griffon riders. When they are past the danger, the free-falling riders then suddenly halt in the air, drifting like feathers until their griffon companions swoop in and they regain their saddles. Working in concert with one another in this fashion, members of the Griffon Cavalry can rapidly eliminate any threat to the city — and even catch the body of the offender before it hits the rooftops below.
History
Battle at Drake's Pass - Frostmoot, 826 E.G.
A great battle that nearly destroyed the massive bridge that connects Aventail to Regalia. Aventail is generally use to fighting off the undead, especially near the land of Mulock, but they usually never see action during the winter, for the snow makes it nearly impossible for the undead to effectively travel, but a great lich somehow managed to catch Aventail off-guard and nearly destroyed Aventail. Many lost their lives, but with the help of the Empire, they were able to defeat the undead and drive them off.
