Republic of Lacryn
The Republic of Lacryn, one of the few non-monarchical nations in northwestern Syrel, is governed by a detailed constitution that was drafted shortly after the infamous last Lord of Lacryn was overthrown following the civil war and Lacryn's secession from Aslynthar.
At the head of this governmental system lies the Prime Senate, headed by the Premier Senator (or simply, the Premier), which is supported by the Council of Nobles and the Council of Commons. The Councils are assembled via a massive national election process, with candidates vying for the position of Councilor during a 20-week race. 75 candidates are elected into each Council, and during an additional 2-week period, the newly-assembled Councils elect 25 from their ranks into the Prime Senate. For the position of Premier, the Senators vote yet again amongst themselves after a brief 1-week-long election. By the end of the 23-week process, the core of Lacryn's central government is refreshed, at least in theory. The Councils draft and refine laws, which the Prime Senate then either legalizes and hands to the Hathian Guard to enforce or vetoes.
On the provincial level, for each of the three provinces of the Republic, there is a Senate-instated governor who is accompanied by a locally elected Advisory Council of three. Larger towns and cities are then headed by governor-instated mayors and similar Advisory Councils, while smaller towns and villages either fall under the wider jurisdiction of a mayor or the governor. Thus, there is a town in each province with both a governor and a mayor.

There's a single, peculiar exception to the otherwise well-ordered government system of the Republic, and it lies in the small village of Waren, about halfway between Vasril and Laevri and near the coast of the Shaded Sea. Waren, for whatever strange reason, maintained its druidic government; their spiritual leaders double as political ones, a group of shamans. Despite all efforts throughout Lacryn's time as an independent state (and notably during the latter years of Aslynthar's unity), Waren has been able to combat efforts to institute a mayor or place the village under the jurisdiction of a nearby town. Such efforts have stopped since Lady Lilfindi became the governor of Vasolin Province; she's either given up and realized the futility of pouring resources into the conversion of Waren, or she sees some sort of heritage-based something-or-other value in the settlement.

City of Laevri
Apart from being the closest Lacran city to the Hydaera-Lacryn border, the old City of Laevri can boast being the birthplace of the Lacran constitution and modern republic. While Laevri was not chosen as the capital due to the proximity to the rival nation Hydaera, it still holds a special cultural and political place in Lacryn, along with being the center of a large following of the Solarch Church.

Currency
The Republic of Lacryn uses the same standard currency of the empire of Aslynthar of 6 units. Flares are unique to the Aslyntharan nations of Lacryn, Elgyngard, and Asdera, made of a special metal called astine found only in deep mines found around the Feldstream. The Feldstream's distance from Lacryn's borders has resulted in a sharp decline in the circulation of the already rare mineral in the Republic, making the perceived value of Flares significantly higher than the official trading value.
