Quinquennially an event happens. These occurrences affect the world of Shattered in a big scale, which usually shapes how the world will act for the next five years. Some events, the ones with bigger repercussion cause the change of an era to the next one.

The last event was also the last change of era, it caused portals to suddently appear around the world, allowing living things to move between islands faster or gave them an oportunity of travel. This happened three years ago and People have been since then learning about portals and how to use them.
