Twilight Cathedral

The Twilight Cathedral in the Nesturian city of Gilmond is the main centre for the worship of the godess Eilistraee. The cathedral is also the focal point of the Drow district little Menzoberranzan within the city, dominating the centre square of the district. The cathedral consists of a large round building, roughly 150 feet in diamater, with a dome of stained glass panels within an iron frame. The main, domed building is flanked by two smaller, circular rooms, giving the cathedral an outward look of three connected orbs along a vertical axis. The area directly around the cathedral is kept clear so as to make sure the light of the two moons can shine through the glass dome unobstructed, bathing the interior in a mysterious display of coloured lights. The larger glass panels depict the cycles of the two moons and the goddess herself dancing naked across the glass panes, silver sword in hand. Smaller panels depict attributes and themes that correspond to the various domains of the Dark Maiden, i.e. swordwork, hunting, dance and song. The glass is tinted in darker colours (mainly blues, darker greens, purples, greys and black) interspersed with white and silver.   The interior consists of a large, circular open space to allow worshippers to sing and dance underneath the moon light shining through the glass dome. The walls are made to resemble a forest, with carved columns that resemble tree trunks and branches that are carved into the walls themselves and inlaid with silver. Between the column "trunks" are comfortable wooden benches with purple velvet cushions to allow worshippers or onlookers to rest. There are no lightsources allowed within the cathedral, ensuring that Eilistraee's moonlight can be experienced fully.   Any who visit enter through the first circular room that houses the entrance to the cathedral. Unlike the sanctuary itself, this room is lit by violet and continuously burning faeirie fire sconces. Planters with fragrant herbs and flowers flank the walls and a fountain inlaid with moonstones stands at the centre of this entry room. The second, circular room at the back of the complex houses the sanctum which holds a shrine, a forge and a special anvil that is considered sacred. This workshop is used by the clergy to forge special silvered blades that are gifted to those worshippers who go out into the world to fight evil directly.
