Valkyrie

The warrior heroes are escorted to Valhalla by the Valkyries, maidens clad all in shining armor who decide who will live in battle and who will die.   This group of maidens serve the god Odin and were sent by him to the battlefields to choose the slain who were worthy of a place in Valhalla. These foreboders of war rode to the battlefield on horses, wearing helmets and shields; in some accounts, they flew through the air and sea. Some Valkyries had the power to cause the death of the warriors they did not favour; others, especially heroine Valkyries, guarded the lives and ships of those dear to them.

They wait upon the heroes gathered on the mead benches of Valhalla, bearing them food and drink. And tend to their every needs.

The Valkyries are similar to the Norns in that they foretell men’s fates. However, the Valkyries are specifically focused on battles.   Brunhild is among the most famous of the Valkyries.
