A Church with a View
The Church of St. George, Shadow Fall's only church, stood silent and solemn.
Karen Cathain, one of Father Amhurst's devotees, was deep in her work, scrubbing the floor near the altar, when she heard a noise—a faint scraping, barely audible above the silence. She paused, looking up, her heart quickening. Shadows danced in the dim light created by the stained glass windows, but she saw nothing.
Minutes later, the noise came again, louder this time, accompanied by a sense of unease that prickled at her skin. Karen stood, wiping her hands on her apron, and turned toward the source of the sound.
Before she could react, a figure emerged from the shadows, moving with a swift, predatory grace.
A moment later, the camera pans down on Karen's lifeless body, alone in the cold, empty church.
