The Tower of Babel

Purpose / Function

Babel was built by the Rune Kings of Olde back when creation was first cast. It was meant to serve as their Seat of Power, from which Yggdrasil could be governed under their will. It has since grown from this purpose into a vast domain in its own right. It primarily houses the Gilded Court, the Hliðskjálf, and is the only other way to move between the different Multiversal Spheres without the Bifröst.

A Babel Gate is a naturally occuring rift or portal that only manifests randomly throughout a Realm (universe) with an active and alive Eudotree. A Gate of Babel remains open for a random amount of time and if traversed through, leads to a random location in Yggdrasil through Babel itself. Caution should be execrised when braving a Babel Gate.
Babbling Keyes
A Gate of Babel can forcibly and manually be opened or summoned via a Babbling Key, a smalll circular object with facial features on it, which constantly babbles incoherently very quietly to itself, growing louder and more understandable the closer it comes to a point in space-time where it can manually force open a Babel Gate. When the time is near, the Babbling Key's babbling becomes clear, as it recites an ancient poem in a forgotten tongue. Once used, a Babbling Key will immedeatly vanish from the user and be returned to a random space-time outside of Babel.
"Ancient wood, older than light’s first gleam, Bearer of worlds, in dreams and in seams. O! Great Yggdrasil, quiver and sway, Reveal the secrets hidden away. Let your branches part, and show the path, To where the Rune Kings wielded their wrath. By your grace, the way shall be told, To Babel’s gate, through the realms of old. O! Mighty Timber, bend to this plea, Open the way, so that we may see, The domain of those who wander and roam, To the heart of Babel, to the Rune Kings' home!"
Traditional Babelian Travel
Each Multiversal Tree contains a way into Babel, traverserable via only Solarsail Starships. These are the only controlled routes into Babel which will faciliatate Multiversal Realm travel with the proper navigation.

The Therian Clans
The Theria are a race of sentient beings who emerged from the Yggtree eons ago before the first Empyreans were even born and before Mortals walked the Realms. They are the only race of people native to Babel. There is a multitude of Therian Clans who, unlike Mortals and Gods who cower in Realms, live within the Yggtree itself. There exist many Therian Clans within the Yggtree, but the most prominent are;
  • The Skvirelkin: Under the command of the Immortal and Cunning Ratatoskr, Lord of Lies. The Skvirelkin are squirrel-like humaniod beings of incredible intelliegence with a predispostion towards cunning plots and elaborate lies. They can move freely throughout Yggdrasil via their Drey Nests. A Drey is a pocket dimension for a Skvirelkin, linked to locations in space-time that a Skvirelkin has been to. The most well traveled Skvirelkin have impressive Drey networks.
  • The Reinmen: Under the command of the Immortal and Honorable Dáinn, Dvalinn, Duneyrr, Durathrór, the Lords of Change. The Reinmen are noble stags of justice, honor, and truth, stalwart defenders of Yggdrasil. Reinmen are towering Deer-like humaniods with magnificent golden, alabaster, or ebony horns. The most revered and regal among their number allow their antlers to grow uncut, creating vibrant and unqiue displays of power and seniroity. Reinmen can control the natural elements and the most powerful among them can change the seasons.
  • The Hræsvelgyr: nder the command of the Immortal and Majestic Hræsvelgr, the Wind-Bringer. The Hræsvelgyr are avian humaniods with great wings for arms.

    Runic Tomb Vaults
    The Rune Kings of ages past were exalted and majestic, one and all, legendary kings and mythical heroes who wielded the power of the great seals. Though dead and robbed of their great seal, the SOUL of a Rune King is of the highest quality and their bodies are priceless treasures to behold, containing vestiages of Runic Power Words.
    The massive dynasties and cults that these Rune Kings would command in their day would entomb their Lord in a vault, buried with the riches of a thousand Realms, sealed with Absolution Matrices and guarded by elite knights and battalions of soldiers so that their Lord's slumber would never be disturbed. These are called Runic Tomb Vaults, and for the countless Rune Kings of Olde, there are countless of them scattered throughout Babel.
