Plague / Epidemic
While the rebellions are finally being put down, a plague takes root in the cities and towns of Southern Kelivar. Rumors and tales are spread swiftly of its deadliness and symptoms. Clerics and Paladins of various gods in the region attempt to combat it, but find themselves overwhelmed with the numbers of afflicted individuals. Unable to contain it, the plague begins to spread rapidly throughout the kingdom. Numbers are unknown but rumors claim it could wipe out nearly half a city that it infected.
What is known about the plague method of infection is minimal. It was believed to be spread through water, and small vermin. The symptoms recorded vary. But the most common signs of infection were a loss of appetite, lethargy, and muscle cramps as the earliest symptoms. Later descriptions move into less reliable natures as some were recorded in panic or by frustrated practitioners. Temporary insanity, loss of speech, speaking in tongues, temporary blindness, bleeding from the eyes, necrosis of the skin, heightened aggression, and lastly autophagia. A infected individuals life span was often measured between a week and one month depending on their fortitude. It had a high fatality rate, with only 1 out of every 10 individuals surviving and developing an immunity to it. Alchemical treatments that are known seemed to have failed, or even made the situation worse. The use of divine magic would be able to treat the disease, and if constant use was kept at least for a week there was by its end a 90% chance of being cured and developing an immunity to it. Unfortunately due to the amount of time needed, it was hard to find enough clerics to deal with influx. of afflicted individuals.
