The Principality of Nevriene

Nevrienne is a cold and dangerous location of the world. It is filled with dangerous creatures, odd magical forests, and its winters in its northern reaches can be deadly. Despite this people found a home in this corner of the world and city states began to arise some Four hundred or so years ago. Powerful families rose in each of these city states and each began to vie for power and control over farm lands, and natural resources. They would unite rather quickly into a loose confederation as the threats from local monsters became so great that the very people of the cities were afraid to leave the safety of their walls.   After unifying Nevrienne, the largest of these cities met with the great families of Modena, Lugo, and Madras to organize themselves properly. Elections would occur to choose a prince from among their number. This person would rule for life to provide stability. However this Princely power was not absolute as to protect the other families from abuses of power. Their armies would be composed of their large household guards and supplemented by mercenary forces. They have not had much to fear from their neighbors as while they have many things of value neither Estrium or Dorwine wishes to deal with the horrors that dwell in the dark forests of the Principality.   Culture tends to revolve around mercantile natures and those of great hunts. Each year there is a great hunt to try and cull the hordes of creatures which call the forest home. Adventurers are lauded and given heroic status's here and many come to either start their journey, or continue on another step to greatness. Bards also follow in swift pursuit wishing to sing of the hero who slew the great grey werewolf, or the heroine who slew one of the dragons of the mountains. Merchants enjoy being of course a help to equip and prepare these would be heroes having gained both a good and bad reputation simultaneously.   There has currently been more troubling incursions into their territories from the north recently. Despite these incursions they continue to aid Sunshield with money and resources, and the occasional offer at a mercenary contract.

Territories

Grand City of Nevrienne: The largest of the cities and regions within the Principality. It holds a substantial portion of the population. It also is home to De Luca family who have been ruling for the past several princes due to their popularity.   City state of Modena: Modena hosts some of the most fertile land within their nation, and even then it is not that good or that much. As such the city has been made into a fortress to ward off any that would threaten such an important region.   City state of Lugo: City of craftsmen, and creators. There lies the second border fortress which keeps watch over the River and to the neighbors of Dorwine   City state of Madras: Perhaps smallest of the cities but largest of regions. Madras is frequented by monster hunters, adventurers, hunters, trappers, or the thrill seekers. It is cold, and dark but the city profits from the trade of odd parts from its ‘exotic’ wildlife.
