On the 3728th anniversary of the coronation of Dain I, the first dwarven king, Dain XIII held an abdication ceremony absolving himself of claim to the high throne of dwarven kind due to his wish to not have a conflict of interests as the new hegemon of the world. After his abdication, his son Durin XIII became Dain XIV, and he returned to legally being Durin XII, though his friends would still call him Dain in private, out of habit if nothing else.

On the 3728th anniversary of the coronation of Dain I, the first dwarven king, Dain XIII held an abdication ceremony absolving himself of claim to the high throne of dwarven kind due to his wish to not have a conflict of interests as the new hegemon of the world. This decision was influenced heavily by the fact that the previous hegemon Rudolph von Mussen had aggressively maintained his seat as Emperor of the Halfling Empire, which lead to him abusing his power to allow his empire to conduct their plan of aggressive expansion, and possible planar imperalism. After his abdication, his son Durin XIII became Dain XIV, and he returned to legally being Durin XII, though his friends would still call him Dain in private, out of habit if nothing else. Durin XII would continue to serve as hegemon and take more time to be with his family and go on to have three more children with his wife Marble Ironfist.
