Troll

Trolls are large primates, likely descendant of similar ancestors as mankind, but far more primitive. They are closer relatives to Ogres, but far more savage and aggressive, and tend to be considered as a more infamous form of monster. Contrary to myth, trolls don't feed on a lot of meat, but are very territorial and aggressive, and may crush or harm a decent population for just their own sense of security. They are among the few argyrophobic races, fearing some metals with silver especially being a toxin when its exposed to their insides.

Basic Information

Anatomy

Trolls are large hairy bipedal creatures. They have long arms, and are often fiercely strong. They have red & black eyes, and short but defined fur with a small excess sometimes forming around ridges of the face, and chin. They tend to come in shades of black, brown, brown-red, and their woolier mountain troll side is often gray, white, or still a shade darker of black.

Genetics and Reproduction

Trolls typically mate for life, and stay with their partner. When a few pairs stay in a range of each other, it is considered a Council of Trolls, but this is sometimes rare as they will contest for turf. Once a female is impregnated, she will have a liter of four, but often only two live. The children may fight and "play" rough, and the least successful that lives will often be seen depending on its mother, sometimes traveling by climbing on its back. If its nutrition or behavior doesn't improve, the father will sometimes fight it out, or kill it.   Despite being quite primitive and not quite so consenting, they hold enough being and intellect to reproduce with others on the higher soul / Chaos spectrum. As such troll halflings are rare, but possible, though these halflings often don't have much greater intelligence than the troll side itself.

Dietary Needs and Habits

They have a set of two incisors on the top and bottom of their jaw, but only sparingly eat meat. As argyrophobic creatures, they actually are even sensitive to too much iron in the blood of victims, limiting their intake to smaller occasional meals of livestock or human. Instead they prefer fruit, nuts, and even consume tree bark.

Additional Information

Uses, Products & Exploitation

  • Troll leather - fairly sturdy, often dark and naturally scented similar to pine
  • Furcoats
  • Eyes for potions & some petrified marble sets
  • Superstitious uses of their toes/fingers in potions or ale

Perception and Sensory Capabilities

Despite their reputation of being fierce predators of the dark, its more of a myth created by man to accompany their monster status. They actually have very awful night sight, but great ears, and are only worse at night because they don't entirely understand what they're after and might already be starved-mad to forage around in the dark. Theoretically their sense of touch is also poor, and why they throw their force around in excess, as they hold little feeling.
