The Thousand Sun-steps
The Thousand Steps is an imperial landmark that is technically a numerically exaggeration. It is hundreds of pieces of gold and gold-painted stone that lead into the empress' palace. It is often marked as a sense of vain display.
Tourism
Its a popular site for tourists, with heavy scrutiny by guards as to how close and who would be allowed. Only expected invites and special days would allow a common reketta to ascend the stairs, and much fewer have the luxury of bypassing the physical strain of the stairs. Regardless, its harsh climb has brought some favor to it with ideas of it being said to 'inspire the sense of burden an empress carries', or that 'only Gilda chooses who may climb in the sun-soaked stairs'. Thus, its been a popular piece in the empire for many decades.
