Core 8
A young red dwarf star that is along the jump lanes from Alpha Centauri, it is 7.86 light years from Sol / Core Prime.
Colonists of Core 8, like its siblings of Core 7 and Core 9 quickly realized that even with Cannae Drive and jump points, that relying on Earth and Core Prime for manufacturing wouldn't do.
They knew that to serve the needs of the Cores, from Prime out to 12, everything needed to be built in space.
The Droidmongers
Just as with Core 7 and 9, Core 8 developed a culture based in mining and manufacturing. The political "ruling class" that governs are made up of corporate directors, presidents and vice-presidents of the companies that call these cores home. In Core 8, that would be the companies who primary business is droid, automation, robot manufacture and AI generation.
These companies came to be called, the "Droidmongers".
A Complex Arrangement
The Droidmongers work to keep Core 8 running as efficiently as the automation, appliances, and other products the manufacture. They created a division of culture based on mining, manufacturing, droid and AI generation. However, at the fringe of this lies what the Droidmongers consider a ‘necessary evil’. The straatvegers.
Straatvegers are nomads that wander the cores, recovering scrap metal and technology lost due to mishap, conflict or other reasons. Their culture of innovation using the parts at hand has generated amazing, or disturbing, breakthroughs. However, they are seen most often in Cores 7, 8, and 9.
Geography
The system has little to it in the way of a star system. It boasts two asteroid belts and four dwarf planets, two in each belt. However, what the system lacked in natural celestial bodies, human manufacturing made up for the rest.
Around each of the dwarf plants, which only just qualify to be small enough to be dwarf planets, several massive "world-stations" were manufactured years before the Core Wars. These artificial moons, along with the mining and manufacturing centers on the dwarf planets, all support life in Core 8.
