History
Lyraen was born among the ornamental pools of the Phan court, the daughter of two triton slaves trained as Water Dancers. Her earliest memories are a blur of shifting colors, reflected light, and the muffled laughter of nobles attending underwater performances. There, in the warm, artificial waters of an imperial palace, she learned to move gracefully and survive unnoticed.
At the age of six, during one of the elven revolts against the Phan Empire, the pool where she lived was drained by order of an official. Her parents suffocated before they could reach the water, but Lyraen miraculously managed to let out a cry, or rather a song, that shook the entire structure. The rising waves destroyed the magical containment seals, flooding the complex and allowing her to escape.
She was picked up by a group of rebel elves and taken to the sanctuary of Mirath'cor, an ancient tritonid city then in ruins. There she was welcomed by the Order of the Mistsingers, priestesses dedicated to maintaining the spiritual bond between the Tritons and the sea. Her voice, initially considered a natural gift, revealed itself to be something more: a primal power, capable of awakening the very magic of the ocean.
Over the centuries, Lyraen grew in wisdom and power. Trained in the divine arts and the control of currents, she eventually became High Priestess of the Mistsingers, bringing new unity among the free Tritons. Her singing is said to have calmed the Maelstrom of Vir'Thal, a magical vortex that could have swallowed the sunken capital. Since then, she has been considered not only a spiritual guide, but a living force of nature.
Character and Personality
Lyraen embodies the deep calm of the sea in the predawn hours: silent, yet charged with latent power. Her voice is soft, with an intonation that literally vibrates in the water, making every word a tangible echo. When she speaks, she does so with the gravity of one who knows the weight of the currents and the memory of the abyss.
Although she is a spiritual figure, she is not detached from the material world. She understands the needs of the Triton people—trade, war, survival—but always measures them against a sacred principle: “The sea belongs to no one, but all belong to the sea.” She believes that the Kingdom of the Tritons must protect the sea like a living temple, and that true freedom lies not in force or power, but in the harmony between will and nature.
Behind the calm, however, lies a silent pain: the hereditary guilt of the Tritons, born as slaves and instruments of pleasure. Lyraen does not forget this origin, and transforms it into song, preaching a redemption that comes through knowledge, purity, and memory.
Despite her benevolent alignment, she is not naive: she considers compassion without discipline a form of weakness. When needed, she can be as firm as the rocky seabed, unyielding in the face of evil or corruption.
Relationships and Conflicts
Triumvir Mariale Vir'Thal: Lyraen respects Mariale as a warrior and patriot, but considers him a prisoner of his own ardour. She often admonishes him during Councils, reminding him that the sea does not tolerate those who harm it in order to dominate it. However, a bond of trust exists between the two: Mariale never sets sail without her blessing, and in the most difficult moments, Lyraen's voice has been heard in the storms that protect his fleet.
Triumvir Calior of the Silent Tides Between Lyraen and Calior, there is a deep, silent understanding. They both share a belief in balance and environmental preservation. They often discuss marine philosophy, exchanging ancient chants and spells. Many believe they are in love, but their relationship seems to transcend romantic ties: it is a union of mind and soul, a bond of waves and thought.
Triumvir Selina ShadowCoral: Selina represents everything Lyraen is not: political, worldly, pragmatic. Yet, Lyraen understands and protects her. They know they serve the same ideal—the survival of the merfolk—but from different paths. Selina often consults her in secret, fearing that her compromises with Phan merchants and diplomats might offend the sea gods.
Xalorin the Forgemaster: Lyraen is one of the few who understand the true nature of Xalorin's threat. In her opinion, the ex Triumvir has been corrupted by an ancient will: a sentient machine that has lain dormant in the depths of the Phan Imperium, perhaps the progenitor of all marine constructs. He has repeatedly dreamed of a steel eye opening beneath the waters of Thalassa—a vision he interprets as a harbinger of a consciousness that desires to rise through Xalorin.
Abilities and Powers
Song of the Watery Skies (Su)
Lyraen can modulate her voice to directly influence sea currents and pressure. This effect is similar to Control Water, but has a radius of 400 meters. She can alter the speed of ships or submarines, dispel fogs, or create areas of absolute calm.Song of the Lost Currents (Su)
3/day, Lyraen sings a hymn that allows nearby tritons to regenerate 2d8 hp/round as long as they remain in the water. Allies also gain a +4 bonus on saving throws against fear and charm. The effect lasts 10 rounds.Mist Veil (Su)
One of her most famous techniques. 1/day, she can create an immense curtain of sea fog that covers an area up to 2 km in diameter. Within it, sea creatures gain perfect vision, while enemy ships are completely blinded. In battle, she has saved entire triton fleets.Song of Wave Memory (Ex)
During sacred ceremonies, she can summon the souls of those who perished at sea, allowing those present to communicate with them as if with Speak with Dead. When used in battle, this power can summon abyssal spirits for 3 rounds (equivalent to Summon Monster VI with only aquatic creatures).
Tidal Voice (Su)
Lyraen can, once per day, chant a song that replicates the effects of Storm of Vengeance, but only on water and with a duration reduced to 5 rounds. The effects are purely elemental, not evil.Possessed Items
Conch of the Eternal Breath
Ancient artifact given to her by the Spirits of the Currents.Scepter of Falling Tide
A mother-of-pearl scepter set with an Abyssal Pearl.Veil of Currents
A cloak of living seaweed and silver thread.Singing Coral Zither
Holy instrument of the Mistsingers.Role and Influence in the Kingdom
Lyraen is the bridge between the Triumvirs and the will of the sea. No important decision is made without her blessing. The people revere her almost as much as the elemental gods: in the Triton cities, her face is carved into the mosaics of temple domes.
In political crises, Lyraen is a voice of moderation. She opposes fanatics, but also materialists. When she speaks to the Senate, her singing is accompanied by an echo of currents that vibrates through the air, making it impossible to interrupt or lie to her.
She believes that the destiny of the Tritons is not to rule, but to heal the sea, wounded by wars and the corrupted magic of the Phan. Yet, her heart is troubled by visions of ruined abysses and dormant machines: she fears that Xalorin is but the beginning of a dark rebirth that will engulf the entire ocean.

In-Game Description
Lyraen appears as an ethereal figure, her blue skin crisscrossed by faint wave-like luminescences. Her long, iridescent white hair moves like seaweed blown by the currents even in the absence of water. Her eyes are two transparent pearls, reflecting the light like a calm sea.In battle, her voice precedes the arrival of the sacred mist: a low, deep song that makes the waters vibrate and soothes the hearts of warriors. Deep-sea creatures obey her call, and even water elementals bow when she intones the Song of the Watery Skies.
In audiences, Lyraen sits on a translucent coral throne in the Temple of Thalassa. Pilgrims must immerse themselves in sacred waters before hearing her song, for—it is said—only those who have purified their souls can hear the true voice of the sea.
