Session 3: The Tribune's Offer Report
General Summary
The party started the session in the village of Lowry where their settlement is prospering. They were visited by a knight from the Tribune asking if they wanted to join the army of settlements, for the cost of being taxed and having a new leader imposed. They chose to decline the offer and peacefully let the knight go, the knight said that he would return in a few weeks, allowing the party a chance to reconsider. This was at campaign year 1, week 4, day 3 (1:4:3).
The party also decided that they would ignore the strange figure from their dreams after realizing that the axe was never the true goal and it was instead the scrolls inside it. The scrolls they then found out were pieces of a puzzle to protecting the Scorchlands from the possible attacks from the diety Ohrer. Ohrer is the diety who is the self appointed ruler of hell and who is seeking something from the overworld. Shortly after, Belavor notices that a continent wide storm is about to sweep over the town.
The party took their advanced warning to fortify the buildings of the town. When the storm came they each chose to stay in a different building in pairs, all buildings but the blacksmith shop were occupied. In the middle of the storm, Belavor and Bill hear a loud slam from the blacksmith and go to investigate, leaving Nerri alone in the tavern. Bill and Belavor go in expecting to find an intruder but instead find Belavor's younger brother Virjeon who had escaped slavery in Stratum to find Belavor. The party allows him to stay with them and returns to their posts.
During the first night, strong winds and pouring rain break the barricades in the tavern as well as the brothel. Jesus and Bill fixed the damages but while underground, Jesus feels the entire ground shaking. Bill looks outside and sees a zombified ogre charging straight for the Tavern. Immediately after, he realizes that Nerri had been abducted and replaced with a bearded devil. The party brings the fight to the Temple and kills the zombie and the devil. They then find another infernal contract pointing them to Stratum
After the storm, Lyra tells Moses that if he wants to try to reestablish a connection to Ethos he should venture to the looking glass. Jesus stayed back to construct a casino building in Lowry while Nerri went out to find possible blacksmith candidates. Moses, Lyra, Belavor and Bill all ventured and found a small group of clerics guarding the springs and for a fee they allowed Moses to enter the springs to talk briefly to Ethos.
Ethos gave Moses cryptic warnings with very few details besides that the overseer of hell is the one trying to attack the material world. She also warns about the presence of the Lyra in the party without saying much. After Moses is pulled from the springs the party sees that the Looking Glass has evaporated with little to no trace. The clerics warn that the cave is under attack and that the party should leave.
After returning, the party uses a magical artifact to decypher the infernal contract and discover that the next attack will not be in Stratum, but rather at the Great Tree. Moses, Jesus, Belavor, and Bill decide that only the four of them will go to the tree, Moses urged they should go to help protect the druid and the Thri Keen clan. Upon arriving they find a gladiator in armor enscribed with the symbol of Ohrer who is dragging the lifeless body of the druid away from the tree. The party then fought and killed the gladiator without much difficulty.
The party picked up the infernal contract that the gladiator was tied to and found after decoding they discovered that the next attack would be in Ultribar. After decoding the contract a gith monk and Nerri walk up to the party and heal the druid then ask the party if they could have the message. The monk then tells everyone that the magic that destroyed the Looking Glass was conjured by a Oathbroken Paladin of Ohrer. This paladin was Lyra who after being made casted inflict wounds on Nerri causing her to go unconscious.
