the Booted Bards

The Booted Bards are a four-man musical band of young men who are very pro-Zarthus in outlook. They are also patriotic, which is why they took the name "Booted Bars". The land of Fumaya is vaguely shaped like a boot and Fumayans are often nicknamed "Booters".   They wear fairly simple clothes but over the top fancy boots. Every third or fourth song involves a lot of foot stomping to set a beat.   Sagan, main vocals, backup strings.   Jurek, primary flute and horns, sometimes percussion or vocals.   Havro, primary strings, back up vocals.   Damazy, primarily percussion, sometimes flute or backup vocals.

Structure

Sagan is the unofficial leader but the group makes major decisions through informal discussion.

History

The Band was formed in 1836 under the name "Moon Mummers". They formed shortly before the Battle of the Bands at the Hay Day Festival that year and largely embarrassed themselves. The failure looms large in their minds years later, but nearly all spectators have forgotten this flop. The band changed their name after this failure.   Motivated by the sting of failure, they really worked on their band dynamic is and practiced liked crazy and got second place at the 1837 Hay Day Festival. Over-joyed by their rapid improvement, they thought they were sure to win next year, only second place again in 1838. They beat last year's winners but lost out to a dark horse band.   The group can play a wide range of musical styles (if there is coin in it, they'll do it). They generally prefer light-hearted bawdy songs, and most of the songs they've created themselves fit this mold. Sometimes they have to take odd day labor jobs to make ends meet. They are often moonlighting as farm hands during the harvest season for instance.   With the rising tensions between Kingdom of Fumaya and Kingdom of Swynfaredia which eventually turned into war, the band almost opted to volunteer to join the army, but they opted not to. The group can fight reasonably well with swords and staffs, but their informal training isn't military grade.   Since the war has started, they have indirectly helped the war effort by focusing on inspiring pro-Fumayan patriotic songs and bawdy songs mocking Swynfaredians.
