"If you tell a shepherdess she is a skilled WInter Musician, she will probably giggle and blush.   If you tell a lady bard she is a skilled Winter Musician, she will probably slap you."   Saad the traveling minstrel
"Winter Musician" is a common idiom throughout Scarterra's northern hemisphere. It refers to a musician who is very good, but not good enough to play professionally   In terms of hours worked, most medieval peasant worked less than most 21st century humans. The principles of this history video mostly apply to Scarterra, and I will write a full article on that later, but for now I'm going to focus on winter for farmers.   During the winter in Scarterra, there's not a lot of chores to do, there isn't a lot of daylight, and traveling isn't always safe or easy, so Scarterran farmers have to do something to pass the time. Many Scarterrans choose to work on music to pass the time, usually practicing new songs and techniques during the winter, so they can showcase their perfected pieces when the weather warms up.   Throughout the year, Winter Musicians are often fairly popular. They might not be able to make a living as musicians but they can accrue a lot of good will and free food entertaining neighbors. Winter musicians are often recruited to help various Nonagon priesthoods put on music for their religious festivals and most are happy to do this, seeing this has a pleasant way to make a donation to one or more of the Nine.
