Ereyar, the King of the Deep

  • A benevolent eldritch pseudo-deity; he longs for peace between the motal races and his subjects, and wishes they didn't automatically drive people mad.
  • Gazing upon him drives lesser men mad, and some Warlocks even struggle. He can't control this, so it causes him to contact Warlocks by communicating with them telepathically as he does not want to cause any harm; this indirect manner of speaking does not seem to affect the sanity of his conversational partner. Only Warlocks can manage to learn anything about him without losing their sanity: even Paladins, who have high resistance to these things, are at risk when trying. Therefore, most recorded knowledge about him is sealed away in the deepest catacombs under the College's library. It takes an incredibly powerful Warlock to physically be in his presence for longer: his madness effect is so strong, that even Warlocks are not immune. The text here could only be translated by a few of the most powerful Warlocks...
  • His title refers more to a deeper part of the mind than to the ocean; one that lies even deeper than the subconscious, and one that most mortals vcan't access, even with magic... However, the name was given as Warlocks being transported to this part of their minds to commune with him described the experience as 'feeling like [they were] being dragged to the depths of the ocean'.
  • He famously often watches over Warlocks in bad pacts, making him a relatively popular Patron choice in the past. He even tried freeing some cultists of Argatghrul's, and was even sucessful to a degree...
  • He did this because Argathrul had been encroaching on the eldritch realms... Ereyar attempted to defend them, and the two cults dedicated them warred on the mortal plane. But Ereyar lost the battle due to a mean trick on Argathrul's end, and was sealed away by the foul god within a gemstone. His cult was almost completely wiped by Argathrul's, save for a small group, that Loralahne meets...
  • Loralahne finds the gem one day, hears his voice, asks the cult, and against her trust issues... She frees Eyerar.
  • In return, he saved Loralahne from Argathrul's tether by using it to block it off as the last means of some small control over her: he would later fully take over this same tether, as it was still existent despite Argathrul's perma-death.
  • Ereyar freeing and powering up Loralahne was basically him declaring a holy war on the foul Fiend; while the final battle between her and Argathrul takes place, the two cults warred. This war lasted for a long time after her victory before Eyeyar's church prevailed; in part because of Loralahne joining the hunts before taking out Argathrul.
  • After the story, his church gets a lot more followers, because words gets out that they stopped a Fiend apocalypse.
