Dunefolk
The dunefolk are a displaced race of wanderers and caravaneers, forced to abandon their ancestral home by an ecological disaster.
The Dunefolk used to inhabit a northern province called the Hivelands. They were forced to abandon their home when a gruesome fungal infection started to spread like wildfire through their cities and towns. This infection zombified the Dunefolk and turned them animalistic and mindless. Scholars theorize that this infection was caused by the Demon Queen Zuggtmoy, as the Demon Wastes are proximal to the Hivelands.
Culture
Major language groups and dialects
The Dunefolk stand out from the average wastelander due to their insectoid physiques and their inability to speak in common languages. They communicate in an intricate (and by some accounts beautifully poetic) language by clicking their mandibles. Most caravans have an interpreter of another race, but when no translator is available, they communicate through a sign language using their limbs and antennae.
Ideals
Gender Ideals
Dunefolk are androgynous beings to most outside viewers, but some of them find meaning in the gender constructs of other races. As such, some dunefolk gravitate towards more masculine or feminine styles, and prefer to be referred to as their chosen genders.
