Frontier
A blanket term for the vast expanse of land south of Aertas-controlled kingdoms, and north of the Sunstone Plateau. A fledgling republic operating out of the city of Divide governs as much of the land as they are capable of, though their efforts may seem fruitless to one wandering the plains.
For hundreds of years, these lands were largely uninhabitable due to the destruction caused by the Scourging. Vast ravines scoured much of the landscape, and what was criss-crossed by these gouges was barren and vacant of life. Little usable farmland could be found, and what was usable was often far removed from other civilizations.
Also tormenting the land were the spirits of its former residents. Five kingdoms of man once made this place their home, and their sudden and untimely deaths left many wights wandering the Frontier seeking vengeance. Only through the tireless work of many generations of Liestic druids has Frontier once again blossomed with life.
Geography
During the upheaval of the Scourging, the land of the Frontier was shattered like a hammer hitting glass. Deep gouges were left all throughout the region, emanating from the scar called Divide and the Wake to it's south.
Between the wound-like canyons are dry and rolling hills, plains of inedible grasses, and vast rock formations. Flat areas are few and far between, and thus agriculture is particularly difficult on the Frontier. Some plateaus vary in elevation, and thus sharp cliffs can make travel difficult.
The most recent shift in ecology has been the rise of the Woads, groves of trees which have arisen in the wake of vengeful spirits being put to rest.
