Ardrest
"Ardrest was the kind of sleepy village that would never have appeared on any map, it was the kind of place where evil could grow unmolested, and it was the type of place where fate would draw heroes..."
Ardest is a small village east of The Free Cities Accord. To the south and west of the town lie great forests, while to the north is a large wetland that eventually leads to the Sheer Coast. Its population consists mostly of human and halfling farmers, and would be generally unknown save for its convenient location along the trade road between the distant cities of Boulrock and Croglen. As of 1491 DR, it is suffering from poor harvests and just coming out of rough winter.

Notable features:
- The Highroad - On the north end of the hill that makes up the center of Ardrest, one end of the Highroad can be seen. It is an ancient structure of smooth white stone in which pylons some 15 feet in diameter support a massive road over 3 carts wide. Though the height varies it is always at least 20 feet above the ground. The highroad heads north for about 15 miles before ending as abruptly as it began. There are no indications as to who built this structure or why.
- The Decrepit Crab - A small roadside inn, and the only one located in the town. The rooms are affordable and the food decent. The owner is a dwarf named Mendra along with her adoptive human daughter Marti.
- The Marketplace - across the road from the Decrepit Crab is a small outdoor marketplace, mostly occupied by traveling merchants. The selection here is wide, but highly variable.
- The Fortyear Festival - the local festival held every 14 years, marking the spring equinox, and signaling the beginning of the planting season. It is also said that the tradition began over 100 years ago to commemorate a great victory over some forgotten evil.
- The Underbarrel Farm - a local farm and brewery, tunnels underneath lead to the hideout of a local gang of thieves known as the Blacksashes. Their hideout was built on top of a series of ancent, underground ruins possible belonging to the Ilyrians. The gang was crushed by a group of heroes and it's leader arrested.
