Garnwald - Merchant's District

The buildings in the Merchant's District are all made of stone, many of them has a layer of marble, obsidian or other expensive stones on the sides facing the streets. They are often two or three stories tall. They often have a shop facing the street, a workshop in the back, while the rest of the building is both for living in and for entertaining guests. The wealthier the merchant, the more ornaments decorate the buildings. Anything from golden reliefs on the walls, to statues made of exotic materials.   Many of the wealthiest merchants have installed extra rooms in their very own pocket dimensions, both because of the status such a thing gives, but also to avoid paying taxes for large mansions. The largest pocket dimensions can have ballrooms, grand staircases, kitchens, large libraries, and more, while the smaller ones only have a few rooms. Some of the wealthiest have more than one pocket dimension, one for entertaining guests, the other for manufacturing goods. Almost all these houses have a wine cellar, and many of them have their own vault where the merchant keeps their funds.    The streets of the Merchant's District are wide, lined with trees and flowers, and after the merchants decided to fund a "Guild of Street Sweepers", who work around the clock, they are clean and with no litter. The whole district smells of flowers and baked goods, and there is a pleasant atmosphere.    Anyone is welcome to shop in the Merchant's District, but when night falls it is expected that those who doesn't belong leave, so the merchants and their families can enjoy their comfortable lifestyle in peace and quiet. The city guard has several guard stations scattered around the district, with both armouries and cells where they'll keep those who fail to follow the rules, and the law.    If you have the funds, you will most likely be able to buy anything you wish for. Most of it will be available right away, and the rest will have to either be made, or ordered from a different city - or even a different plane of existence!
