Aeric
Aeric, as a Tier 4 Chronomancer, possesses extraordinary power over time, which makes him both valuable and highly dangerous. His abilities transcend the typical limits of most Bloodline Mages, making his mere presence a subject of great intrigue and fear. However, due to the vast cost his abilities require and the exhaustion requiring tremendous recovery periods, Aeric remains a relatively isolated figure, only using his powers when absolutely necessary.
Bloodline Powers
- Short-Term Time Displacement:
Aeric’s most common ability is to manipulate short periods of time. This allows him to move forward or backward in time within a specific window, typically no more than a few hours or days at a time. This power is used primarily for strategic purposes, allowing him to see immediate future events or to review the past. In a combat context, this enables him to anticipate moves by enemies or identify critical opportunities. While he can shift in time slightly, it does not allow for any permanent change in history while shifted—only a momentary glimpse into the flow of events. Easily still very exploitable, Aeric's restraint against misuse is legendary.
2. Long-Term Prophecy:
Perhaps the most mysterious of Aeric's powers is his ability to glimpse future events with incredible accuracy. This is not true precognition, but rather a broad visionary sense of what is to come. Over the years, Aeric has given counsel on decisions that have affected the outcome of many tribal disputes and interventions on behalf of the Lazari. His visions tend to focus on key turning points, offering glimpses of events that will shape the future, but he is careful not to dictate the course of history, knowing the delicate balance between fate and free will. His role as an advisor is invaluable, and Lazari leaders often defer to him on matters of great importance. Even so, Aeric is slow to leverage such prophecies, often giving opaque advice in response to a given request.
3. Time Stop:
The most terrifying and overwhelming of Aeric’s abilities is his power to halt time itself for a short period. This is a highly draining ability, and its use has serious consequences. When Aeric invokes Time Stop, he can suspend all time within a specific radius—from individuals to entire armies or even cities. During this time, those he has choses are allowed to move freely, while everything, and everyone, else remains frozen in place.
This ability was first used in the historical record to thwart a full-scale invasion by the Emarian Moors. where Aeric froze the battlefield, allowing the Lazari forces to regroup and outmaneuver the undead forces. The event, while a resounding success, came at a terrible cost—Aeric was drained of all power for nearly a decade, his powers so depleted that he could barely function for years afterward, left as an invalid on the battlefield he was evacuated to safety by allied Medicos.
Time Stop is considered a last resort, and no-one is even sure that Aeric could even repeat the ability. The sheer scale of the expenditure of magical energy means that this power likely has only a single use in any given lifetime. For Aeric, it is not just the magic that was exhausted, but the physical toll it took on his body and mind. Regardless, the continued threat of a potential Time Stop remains and means that Aeric, as the only known living Chronomancer, continues to be revered and feared.
