Respite Valley
Of course I've been through Respite Valley. Only place in those parts that gets a drop of rain and I tell you there's so much gold in those hills it's practically laying there for the pickin'. If you lot want money, you'll go there. Now who's dealin'?
Respite Valley lies far to the southwest border of the Western Territory between Mount Verrin and Mount Clay. Once home to rich mines, the area has been abandoned since The Desolation.
Climate
Much like the rest of the Western Territory, Respite Valley is an arid desert prone to violent, lightning-filled sandstorms. The only precipitation comes in the winter months when the temperatures drop slightly and equally violent thunderstorms gather between the mountains.
History
Prior to The Desolation Respite Valley was a lush rain forest fed by the Snake River. The rain forest surrounded Mount Verrin, the region's only mountain. The region was home to Clear Bank which sat at the base of Mount Verrin and housed the lucrative coal and diamond mines that supplied The Cities. During the earthquakes caused by The Desolation, the town of Clear Bank was destroyed when a second mountain emerged and created what is now known as Respite Valley.
In the years since Desolation Respite Valley has remained mostly uninhabited with only a few failed villages established over the years. In 1192 the town of Dead Post was founded with hopes of restarting the Verrin mines, but the inhabitants found life there difficult due to the sand storms which could change the face of the landscape overnight and leave the town buried in sand.
The town was rebuilt twice before the inhabitants evenutally abandoned Dead Post in 1208. Since then the area has been uninhabited.
