Krysaalis a'Ciermanuinn (kris-AW-lis ah seer-man-OO-in)

To the Vesprian Court, she is a curiosity—a relic of a lost island, a ward of the Crown, and a scholar of immense promise. To the Elowyn who called her kin, she was a child of the Eshan’cievar (Silver Blade), a living ghost of a fallen city.

The Legacy of the Silver Blade

Krysaalis a'Ciermanuinn is a woman caught between two worlds. Raised in the gilded halls of the Torryaenen Palace in Vespyr yet haunted by the memory of shadowburned stone, she has dedicated her life to unearthing the secrets of the past. She is a Historian of the Arcane, seeking to map the invisible currents of the Grand Composition to understand more than just the Eternal Song, but why the world broke in the first place.
"We call it 'Eternity,' but that is a Vesprian word. My mother called it the Song. And if reality is a song, then surely we must learn to listen before we try to play."

The Survivor of Aille

Krysaalis a'Ciermanuinn as a child by Val Saraven
Born a "freebirth" daughter of the Elowyn amidst the wilds of Aille, Krysaalis’s innocence was severed in 928 AV. The Siege of Ciermanuinn transformed her history into a scar. She was among the final few to cross the threshold of the Alabaster Gate before it shattered, a survival purchased by the blood of her parents. The memory that defines her is not of escape, but of Seeven and Avaaya turning their backs on safety to charge into the maw of the Stornir darkness—a final, desperate act to buy time for the refugees.
Alone in the sprawling capital of Vespyr, she was granted the ultimate sanctuary: the personal protection of Qyen Carielyn. Yet, the title of Royal Ward proved to be a gilded cage. While treated with the honor due a survivor, she grew up a stranger in her own home—a "Rosemilk" curiosity adrift in a court of high politics, forever separated from the family she lost by a sea of silence.

Mind & Spirit

Krysaalis is defined by a quiet, iron-willed intensity—an intellect so sharp it often frightened her tutors at the Vesprian Academy, Aula a'Vespri. Yet, this formidable exterior serves as a shield for a deeply anxious soul, masking a warmth she often struggles to express to those outside her inner circle. Her relationship with her adopted homeland mirrors this fracture; while she fiercely loves Vespria for the shelter it provided, she harbors a deep, abiding resentment toward its politics. She struggles daily to reconcile the Vesprian cultural ideal of the "Land of Refugees" with the bitter reality that the state chose to abandon her home island to the Stornir.
Solace comes to her only through song. She is a talented harpist, including mastering the complex parallel strings of the Shandaryn Floor Harp, as both an artist and a scholar. To Krysaalis, music is more than entertainment; it is how attunes herself to the melodies of reality, a tangible practice of the Grand Composition she studies.

Specialized Knowledge

One the hallowed halls of the Aula a'Vespri is the path of Devotion to Valis. While most who choose such a lofty goal become skilled Cantors of the Eternal Song. Krysaalis eschewed that tradition and instead sought to pursue a discipline that blends history with the metaphysics of the Grand Composition. She is a scholar of Archaeo-Resonance—the study of how historical events scar the magical fabric of the world.
She treats history not as a list of dates, but as a dataset of cosmic acoustics. By analyzing the myths of the Elowyn and the architectural ruins of the Kali, she seeks to reverse-engineer the fundamental laws of reality, searching for the "silent notes" that the official chronicles have erased.
"History is not just what happened. It is the music that lingers after the song has ended. I intend to hear it all."

- Krysaalis a'Ciermanuinn, on her devotion to
Valis, Sister of Insight
Her scholarship traces the crescendo of the Lifesong (Symphony of Light) and the rigid, binding harmonies of the World-song (Symphony of Elements). But she goes farther, her studies venture where few scholars dare to tread. Unusual for one who does not practiced with the Grand Composition, Krysaalis possesses a rare, theoretical mastery of the Silence (Symphony of Oblivion)—understanding the terrifying mechanics of entropy and Shadow Magic, even if she refuses to sing its dissonant notes.

Relationships & Connections

Valgarion Lyris
The Mentor. Valgarion is the brilliant, eccentric scholar who shaped Krysaalis's mind. Their relationship is complex; he views her as his greatest student and a surrogate daughter, oblivious to the deeper, suppressed affections she harbored for him during her years as his aide.
Illiryssa Torryaenen
The Morning Star. Once inseparable childhood friends bonded by the trauma of the Siege, the two drifted apart as Illiryssa ascended to the burden of leadership. Yet, a fierce loyalty remains between them, anchored in the memory of Krysaalis's mother, Avaaya.
Lirynel Torryaenen
The Diplomat. If Illiryssa is the crown, Lirynel is the conscience. Lirynel became Krysaalis's "foster sister" and confidante, sharing her obsession with returning to the islands to find the truth.
Torryaenen Twins
The Students. For 24 years, Krysaalis served as the private tutor to Valgarion and Illiryssa's twin daughters, Ashterah and Torryaen. Her hesitation to leave Vespria stems largely from her devotion to these young women.

The Call to Mystery (1081 AV)

For decades, Krysaalis has sought a sanctioned return to Aille, only to be stymied by Vesprian isolationism and the "Protection Edicts" of Qyen Ariel.
But whispers have reached the mainland. Rumors of Stornir movement in the islands, and faint, impossible reports of survivors hiding in the deep wilds.
In 1081 AV, unwilling to wait for permission that may never come, Krysaalis secured a fragile Letter of Introduction and passage on a vessel bound for the unknown. She seeks not just her parents, but the truth of what lies in the Lacuna—the missing history of the world.
