Shurima - Continent

Shurima is the southern continent of Runeterra. The most predominant nation on this continent is the Shuriman Empire from which it gained its name. This continent is now connected to Valoran through a small artificial land bridge where modern day Piltover and Zaun are located.

Geography

The continent of of Shurima has major regions with distinct climates: the Great Sai, the Icathian Peninsula, the Southern Coast, the Western Mountain Range, and the Verdant East.

Great Sai

The Great Sai, also known as the Shuriman Wastes, is a large desert that spans most of the central lands of Shurima bound only by the mountains of the Western Range, the Southern Coast, and the jungles to the East. This desolate wasteland has for centuries been a mass of sand dunes and ruins of the remnants of Ancient Shurima. These sands have claimed countless between the relentess heat, savvy predators, and savage raiders that emerge under the cover of darkness. An oasis in the desert has been reborn, however, bringing a second chance to the old Empire.

Icathian Peninsula

The Icathian Peninsula and its surrounding area are the remnants of the lost Kingdom of Icathia. The people of this nation tried to manipulate the Void to fight the Ancient Shurimans, however this backfired and left the land a barren and forbidding wasteland. And yet, amid the ruins, unspeakable horrors of the Void range the lands looking to consume.

Southern Coast

A largely forgotten region that lies to the south of the Great Sai. It has been far-removed from most of the world's politics and the mountain range protects it from the harsh desert climate. Barely worth mentioning at the moment, but maybe I'll come back to it.

Verdant East

The far east of Shurima is covered in forests, marshes, and jungles that stand as a strong contrast to the rest of the continent. Most civilization keeps to the northern coastline of this region where they can trade with powerhouses in Bilgewater, Noxus, Piltover, and Zaun, but there are some that try to push into the dark forest where tribes of Vastaya dwell. Once you travel far enough south, the forests turn into a much thicker, more humid rainforest. Hidden in the southern jungles are an array of larger reptilian creatures: dinosaurs and lizardfolk.

Western Mountain Range

Known mostly for the famed Mount Targon, the Western Mountain range extends from the northwestern corner of Shurima down the west coast and then eastward between the Great Sai and the Southern Coast. Most of these mountains are remote and all but impossible to reach save by the most determined seeker. The Rakkor call this region their home living mostly in nomadic tribes though there are some permanent cave structures that serve as settlements and seasonal gathering locations.
