Steel Wilhelm

Steel Wilhelm is a Lupine knight of Stonehearth. He is lawful good in alignment, and uses a hammer and shield as his primary weapons.   Steel was born and raised in the city of Stonehearth. His parents, Damascus and Rose Wilhelm, were members of the town guard, his father Damascus was a paladin and his mother was a cleric. From a young age, his parents thought him what they could of divine magic and fighting to protect others. He took a quick liking to using a shield, and he favored the war hammer over any blade he had used. As time went on and he grew older, it was increasingly obvious that he was much taller and bigger than the other lupine children, as he was easily a head talker then his close friend Fergus when they were only 8 winters old. His training, education, and life went on until he accompanied his parents on his first experience of their work, tasked with protecting a caravan as it took goods to a neighboring city. The caravan was attacked by a bandit group and his parents were slain protecting him and the merchants of the caravan, Steel's left eye getting cut by one of the bandits during the encounter which left him blind in one eye, a large scar over it as a constant reminder. Greif struck over the death of his parents, only at the age of 13 at this point, he was taken in by the family of his closest friend, Fergis Stone. Mr. and Ms. Stone raised him as one of their own alongside Fergus and he had a good upbringing with them looking over him. Mr stone was a blacksmith for the city, and Ms. Stone was a tinkerer, and due to Steels inventive and curious nature, he became invested in the crafts of both as a hobby. Mr. Stone had even let him forge himself a suit of armor once he was proficient enough, however he ended up outgrowing that quite fast and later on made himself a new suit of heavy armor with the help of Mr. Stone's guidance. Steel continued his training with fergus, both hoping to join in with the guard once they could. Steel still took a deep favoring to the shield, and he had inherited his father's war hammer after his death, which he had made some small adjustments and improvements, along with a greatshield that he constructed with the help of Mr. And Ms. Stone. Fergus took a liking to the bow and shortsword, much more mobile then Steel's heavy armor and shield. Once him and Fergus turned 18, they enlisted and joined the city guard. They both enjoyed their new positions, Steel a guard of the front gates, and Fergus a ranger atop the western guard tower. They didn't see much action as time went on, as the city was quite well protected and not many forces attempted to assault the city due to its defensive strength. However, during an attack on the city by a war band of orcs, the walls of Stonehearth were pelted with fire from catapults. The guards of the city fended off the attack from the gates, forcing them.to fall back, but the catapults kept attacking from a ridgeline, forcing the guard to be sent out and taken out the catapults. The rangers on the ramparts fired on the catapult crews, which weakened several of them, though the orcs changed their focus and as the guard platoons reached the catapults, they let loose a volley on the western guard tower, collapsing it with steel watching. The guards fought back the orc war party and dismantled the catapults before returning to the city. There were a fair number of casualties, though they were victorious. Steel's platoon was quite successful, and Steel himself was able to protect his compatriots and hold off the attackers while they took out multiple crews and catapults, though he was quite battered and wounded afterwards. He had taken the brunt of the attack so his platoon was safe and he returned to the city gates with the help of some of the other guards, lending him a hand to walk.   He had just enough divinity in him to heal himself, and limped to the rubble of the tower, where he dug through it as best he could, finding Fergus buried and barely holding onto what life he still had. Despite his efforts, Fergus died, and was buried beside Steel's parents. After the city recovered from the attack, Steel was offered to be promoted within the guard for his actions, but he politely refused, having decided on a different path. The lord of the city granted Steel the title of Knight in the city instead of the promotion within the guard, a great sign of honor and respect. As of the present day, Steel is a well known Knight Errant, and he follows the tenets of his own personal oath. He travels from city to city, aiding where he can. The Lord of Stonehearth sometimes will ask him to travel to some of the smaller towns within the kingdoms to defend them against threats and dangers, and sometimes to neighboring kingdoms alongside his usual travels. He is known between kingdoms as a traveling protector, and revered by most of the neighboring kingdoms for what he does.
