Lupine
Lupines are wolf like people, with no relation to werewolves. They are instead the children of a magical ancestor. The wolf Lupin was awakened by a powerful druid, and learned of magic and how to wield it. Lupin became a mage hindered by her form. Her paws could not easily form the needed runes, and she could only hold things with her mouth. So in desperation, she reached out to the primal spirits of the world, and they answered her call. They reshaped her, turning her forepaws into grasping hands, and giving her bipedalism. She became the first lupine, and the namesake of her new species. She performed the ritual on her old pack, and others, sharing with them her bipedal form and her intelligent mind. These new lupines were able to breed, and their race grew. They are still uncommon outside Stonehearth, but are a part of the world none the less.
Their bestial heritage has also given them plenty of benefits as a race. They have darkvision, have retained their slashing claws, and are attuned to the wilds. This last trait gives them two perks. The first is that they have a natural instinct for survival, letting them endure even harsh environments. The second is that they retain a link to their kind. They can communicate basic ideas with other canines, such as the wolves they came from.
