House of Sagarto

Those who belong to this noble family are often called Sagartics, or, on occasion, the Wolf-lords.   Ever since its founding, Erlagon has been ruled by the House of Sagarto. It is so named for the founder of the house and of the kingdom, Éorin, to whom the gods gave the epithet Sagarto. It is the last surviving house which can, through its main lines, trace its lineage directly back to Nimír the King.   Although the line has remained unbroken, and, according to legends and prophecies, never will be broken, there have never been many Sagartics alive at one time. On numerous occasions rival kingdoms and powerful kings have taken upon themselves the challenge of hunting down the Sagartics, in part due to the history of animosity between Erlagon and the kingdoms of Mandilár, and in part due to the arrogance of these kings. To them the House of Sagarto is a legendary beast, to be hunted and slain only by a worthy champion.   Sixty-one monarchs belonging to the blood of the House of Sagarto have ruled over the kingdom of Erlagon, fifty-three kings and eight queens, spanning twelve minor ruling houses and a period of nineteen centuries.

Egi Kymast is listed only as something of an honorable mention, as his coronation was not official, and he is thus not regarded as having truly been king
The law of succession in the kingdom of Erlagon dictates that, by default, the eldest child, be they son or daughter, inherits the throne.   However, a ruler may decide, by royal proclamation, to name any one of his children as his heir, no matter the order of their birth. This practice has often prevented a reckless and frivolous firstborn child from abusing the throne. On the other hand it has itself been used wickedly, especially in the days of the sons of Dokuemár.   Moreover the law commands that a queen, should she marry, give over the throne to her husband. He then becomes the reigning monarch, while she becomes the consort. Among the Sagartics the concept of a male consort is unheard of.
