Éorin Sagarto

"I came before you as your brother, and you rejected me. I came armed against you as a foe, and thus you accepted me." - Éorin
He spent his childhood in the wilds of the region of Erlagon. In those early days it was not called by that name, nor did it appear the way it does now, for then it was mostly dry desert and barren rock, a rugged wasteland.   Much of that time he spent in the company of his twin brother, Tovde, who was his elder (refer to the story of Jacob and Esau). They were very close, often taking on quests or simple tasks for the local herdsmen, or getting into mischief.   In later years he was separated from his brother when they drew lots for their kingdoms, and Tovde was given what would become Tovden, which was in those days the opposite of Erlagon, fertile and green, before the eruption of the volcano.   It's possible that they had some tragic falling out later on, or maybe complicated politics caused them to have to fight each other.   Eorin was often visited by various gods.   After he was given the kingdom of Erlagon he spent much of his time fighting with or quarrelling with his elder brothers, some of whom wished to kill him, and on the other hand he worked relentlessly to better the conditions of his people and improve the quality of their land. It's possible that the gods helped him with this. In fact gods might commonly have helped him with all of his tasks, like fighting, building, farming, etc.   The gods gave him for a companion a black wolf called Korsarsdor, who was, in fact, one of the Jaiohl, his own angel, in disguise.   He met the maiden, Cerene, shortly after he became king (maybe), in between skirmishes with the armies of his brothers. He was marching through the hill country when he stopped at the top of a relatively green hill of heather, and there met the young shepherdess. He asked her about the lay of the land, with which, since she was a shepherdess, she was familiar, and then he went on his way.   But the next battle went poorly for him, and his army was put to rout. He was wounded, and, limping away from his pursuing foes, he found refuge, by fate, in the home of Cerene's father, where he was nursed back to health.   It's possible that before he went away back to the war he made some sort of oath or deal with the shepherd, something he had to do before he returned to wed his daughter. Either he made the oath himself or the shepherd decided to test him in this way, or perhaps Cerene herself put it to him.   He was eventually, many years later, slain by his brother Fekeles.
