Upper Lykara

Upper Lykara is administered through the Tatharian Governate of Lykara, overseen by a governor directly appointed by the Empress. Local nobles were stripped of independent authority, though some serve as magistrates or officers under imperial oversight. The former High Court of Bellacarno was dissolved and replaced by a bureaucracy modeled on Capitolina’s institutions. Today it remains a province under the Tatharian Empire, but its people bear the memory of Trevaldi. To Tatharian governors, it is a fertile valley of revenue and soldiers. To Trevaldan loyalists, it is occupied land, its name a scar and reminder of lost sovereignty. The memory of Trevaldi lingers in whispered songs, clandestine duels, and the bitterness of those who once swore oaths to a vanished crown.

Culture

Trevaldan culture is being steadily overwritten by Tatharian norms. Festivals once centered on dueling and wine harvests are now dedicated to imperial unity and Alessandra’s divine favor. Noble pageantry has been curtailed, though common folk maintain their songs and vineyard rituals in defiance of official discouragement. Local resentment simmers, especially over the loss of dueling rights, which were once central to Trevaldan identity. Many now gather in secret to hold duels or recite the banned songs of old heroes. Caliban and others of his ilk embody this cultural wound, carrying the memory of Trevaldi into every fight.

History

  • 1525 PE (402 TC): Trevaldi annexed, renamed Upper Lykara.
  • 1526–1530 PE: Resistance movements sporadically suppressed.
  • 1531 PE: Montelaro converted into a Tatharian military academy.
  • 1532 PE (409 TC): Upper Lykara fully integrated into imperial tax and military systems.
  • Demography and Population

  • Population Estimate: ~135,000 inhabitants (as of 1532 PE)
  • Recognized Citizens: Humans, primarily counted by Tatharian census.
  • Uncounted: Non-humans continue to live here, though excluded from official tallies.
  • Integration: Nobility partly absorbed into Tatharian aristocracy, though many Trevaldan families lost titles and land.
  • Territories

Upper Lykara covers the same upland valley between the Ardila and Laro Rivers once ruled by Trevaldi. Under imperial oversight, the rivers are patrolled by Tatharian river wardens, and infrastructure has been reinforced with imperial watchtowers, checkpoints, and roads designed for troop movements.

    Military

Imperial Garrison: Permanent detachments of Tatharian legionnaires stationed in Castrovane, Montelaro, and Bellacarno. Disbanded Orders: The Order of the Golden Circlet was dissolved. Former knights were offered service in the Tatharian legions or stripped of status. Resistance: Small bands of Trevaldan loyalists occasionally stir unrest in the uplands, but uprisings have been swiftly suppressed.

    Religion

Tatharian orthodoxy dominates, with temples to Alessandra, Thalorium, and Rione refurbished in imperial style. Local saints and ancestral cults of Trevaldi have been discouraged, though underground veneration persists.

    Laws

  • Codification: The Codex Bellacarno was annulled, replaced with the Imperial Law.
  • Lineage: Noble pedigrees no longer confer legal immunity, though certain privileges were grandfathered in.
  • Dueling: Public duels are banned, declared unlawful disturbances. Enforcement varies, and secret duels still occur.
  • Justice: Common justice was standardized, with Imperial law courts holding authority over capital crimes.
  • Taxation: Imperial levies prioritize agricultural exports, especially wine and stone.
  • Agriculture & Industry

  • Agriculture: Vineyards and olive groves remain dominant, now redirected into imperial trade.
  • Industry: Quarrying expanded under imperial contracts, supplying marble for projects across the Empire.
  • Imperial Taxation: Heavy levies imposed on wine, oil, and stone exports.
  • Trade & Transport

  • Exports: Wine, olive oil, marble, and granite.
  • Imports: Grain (to supplement local shortages), weapons, textiles.
  • Transport: Improved roads connect Bellacarno to Tatharia Capitolina via a new imperial highway.
  • River Control: The Ardila and Laro now carry patrol barges as well as trade vessels.
  • Education

Education has been standardized to the Imperial curriculum, focusing on rhetoric, military service, and civic loyalty. Trevaldan traditions of dueling instruction and aristocratic academies have been shut down or repurposed.
