Deikon

The invention of the deikon is a matter of considerable contemporary debate. Some scholars argue that the garment, in its modern form, was invented three centuries ago, by the High Moradeikon Temessos, who was a blacksmith by profession before being called to service by the Athai. As he was a blacksmith who continued his craft alongside performing his duties as High Moradeikon, he came to need a garment that would be comfortable and practical, versatile enough to be modest and solemn during worship, and one that was easy to clean, because it was inevitable for the garment to be dirtied in his pursuit of his craft. To this end, he created a specially shaped sheet of linen that he could wrap around his body in a variety of ways to suit the task at hand. And since it was only a single sheet, cleaning it would not be so onerous.   Others argue, however, that historical accounts and archeological evidence suggest that the people of Orochtha have been wearing garments similar to Temessos' deikon since before recorded history. Artwork found on earthenware in some of the oldest sites found to date depict laborers and farmers wearing similarly loose linen clothes, though in some cases it is evident that the garments are made of two or more pieces. Nevertheless, proponents of this idea contend that Temessos' deikon was simply an evolution of something that the people of Orochtha had had since before they even knew how to write.
