Moradeikon

Moradeikon, variously translated as Wax-Crafter, Wax-Herd, or, more rarely, Candle-Maker in Dominean refers to the priests and priestesses that serve as religious leaders for the native, henotheistic religions endemic to the Shardscape realm of Orochtha.

Perception

Purpose

Moradeikon take upon a wide variety of roles in their communities, but their primary roles are twofold. First, they are duty-boun d to act as spiritual and religious counsel for those that seek their assistance. Second, they are also responsible for overseeing the care of their host community's kiephelos hives, as specialized skills and knowledge regarding the care of the creatures is included as a core competency which all apprentice moradeikon are taught.   Beyond these tasks, and according to the needs of their host communities, moradeikon may be responsible for adjudicating disputes, managing ledgers, providing basic childhood education, and producing basic goods. Often, papermaking, candlemaking, and processing of kiepheloi wax form the cornerstone of a moradeikon's income, hence their name.   It is only in larger cities, such as in the holy city of Athaios, where the population is large enough for people to specialize in their professions that Moradeikon occupy a more dedicated religious role. Especially in Athaios, moradeikon in larger settlements serve more as temple stewards, counselors, and confessors, although even here they tend to kiephelos colonies, but more for the private use of their temples rather than as commercial ventures.

Social Status

Moradeikon are revered and highly respected members of their host communities. And often, despite being outsiders, moradeikon can very quickly becme accepted as community pillars. Although communities can be quite protective of their kiepheloi, moradeikon are, as a rule, exempt from the typical suspicion. This is because their specialized knowledge on the care of the creatures is considered invaluable, especially in more rural settlements where alternate experts might not necessarily be available or trusted.
