Athainotalaon
The Athainotalaon serves as the foundational holy scripture for the worship of the Athai in the Shardscape realm of Orochtha. It is a canonical text used in all but the most fringe of Orochthan faiths, and sets out the supremacy of the Athai above all other gods worshipped in Orochtha.
Purpose
The Athainotalaon serves as the basis for the Orochthan way of life. Its strictures inform not just Orochthan religion, but every other aspect of Orochthan society. It prescribes the moral values that the Orochthan peoples should strive to uphold, the economic principles that Orochthan governments should adhere to, and even the systems of justice and government that the Orochthan peoples should subject themselves to.
Historical Details
History
Orochthan tradition holds that the Athainotalaon was the very first written document in all of Orochtha, and that the moment of its penning was the beginning of recorded history. Contemporary scholarship dismisses this belief, as it would suggest that a system of writing had not been invented in Orochtha prior to the creation of the Athainotalaon, and as tradition holds that the text was created by mortal hands, at best, it could be said that the Athainotalaon is the oldest surviving document, rather than the first to be written altogether.
The reality is that the exact date of authorship for the Athainotalaon is unknown, with many of the faithful, even among the most senior clergy at the Great Temple to the Athai, having the impression that the text has been around since time immemorial. Furthermore, the precise nature of the text's authorship is unknown. Whether it was a work of sole authorship or a collaborative effort is a matter of philosophical, theological, and scholarly argument, however tradition holds that the Athainotalaon was penned by the hand of Kamos the Seer, first of the High Moradeikon.
