Chronostones
"A kind of Radiation that acts like a super performance-enhancing drug that causes intelligence but also vicious behaviors in the hosts. it's currently unclear whether the crystal's influence makes them violent or that's a natural response to being "uplifted", seems to have much more minimal effects on species that have already been awakened, however, leading us to believe the stones can only raise a creature to a human-like level of intelligence, though this hasn't been proven."
Properties
Material Characteristics
A shiny Gem like material, it looks like a very clear emerald that shimmers blue and green on the inside.
Physical & Chemical Properties
These crystals are both warm to the touch and always radiate a form of magical radiation that affects the intelligence and aggression of creatures. Physical mutations caused by this radiation are both incredibly severe and extremely rapid. These Mutations often take only a half-second of direct exposure to develop, though mentality is often changed much less rapidly. It seems that thin sheets of lead can block the radiation, while stone and woods are completely ineffective.
Compounds
These crystals currently don't seem to be reverse-engineerable with our technology, nor does anyone know where to even begin with them.
Geology & Geography
This material has always been found in deep underground nodes connected to entrances of the Underdark, with the entrance often lying near it. The heat that the crystal generates also heats these caves to extreme proportions.
Origin & Source
The creation of this material can be traced back to the forerunners. While it's not completely certain why they did this, they believe it was possibly to uplift species that weren't intelligent inside the dome.
History & Usage
Discovery
First discovered by the criminal Thorial Lenoria, the infamous traitor of Covenant. Was being mined and excavated by Thorial until the group known as Avante Garde destroyed the cave entrance and buried the cache along with a dragon encased inside the crystals.
Hazards
Mutates not only nearby animals and creatures but fauna as well, though the speed at which it does so is much slower. The Fauna almost invariably become hostile and carnivorous though they often start with small animals before moving onto larger targets like humans.
