Zaratoza

The Crown of Honamaya, Zaratoza is the largest city in the region, and a magnificent example of the unique architecture and design found here. Zaratoza first grew in a small, gradual slope on the inner side the mighty mountains it rests on, where travel was easy by foot and crops and livestock had room to safely expand. As the city grew, however, the gentle slope filled in quickly, and only the steep, rocky cliffsides remained nearby. The people of Zaratoza took the challenge on and built a mighty city of stone that clings to sheer rock and shakes off the snows, allowing their city to flourish. Nowadays, the city spans the sides of three neighboring mountains, connected by bridges and gondolas. The districts in the city zig-zag their way up the cliffs to occasional flatter ground, with tight, twisty roads and stone stairwells for foot traffic. Most homes here are multistory, with entrances wherever they can connect to a road or path, and often with a different family living on each floor.   Regardless of where in the city you are, on a clear day, there's an astonishing view of the inner seas in the distance, just over the lower ridge opposite the city.

Points of interest

  • Grand Skydock: A crowning achievement of civil engineering for the city of Zaratoza, the Grand Skydock is the largest airship port in the World. On any given day, nearly a hundred airships of varying sizes will dock or leave from here, all from the magnificent stone overlook that juts from the sheer cliffs of the city. The bottom four stories are warehouses and storage, with space available for any ship to rent. Mighty doors keep the goods inside safe from sudden blizzards, and a series of cranes and elevators allow quick transport to any ships docked above. Atop the overlook, a fine glass and stone building gives crews and passengers a place to escape the cold and get a warm meal, while covered walkways allow them to keep dry when heading to the docks.
