Churick

Churick is a painterly town, safely nestled in a valley between mighty peaks. It's verdant most of the year, nourished by snowmelt and shielded from the worst of the region's weather by the mountains that surround it. Less snow blankets Churick in the winter than nearly any other town in Honamaya. Farming is easy here, livestock grow plump, and the people live well. Churick has remained a somewhat-famous town for most of its long existence due to the wines and cheeses produced here, considered some of the finest in the World. The wine and cheese makers here hold their craft to a high standard, and much of the product ages for decades before it's considered ready for sale.

Points of interest

  • Farmside: On the western edge of the community is a gentle hillside that hosts the majority of the farms and vineyards in Churick. Aside from fine grape wines and kifaru cheese, the farms here also produce maize, potatoes, barley, and varietals of squash. There's a large moa ranch as well, which supplies many of the birds of burden to nearby towns and villages. During seasonal festivals, the hillside becomes an impromptu market, hosting sporting events, dancing, and music.
  • Newburg: Sitting on the north end of the river road is a neighborhood commonly referred to as "Newburg", though it doesn't have a formal name. So-called because it's the newest part of the town, Newburg is mostly populated by those who've come from across the World to live in Churick. It began with a group of former Balvedans who fell for the area while on a scholarly trip, but the enclave has grown to add Anavhi, Gordunnese, and Vittanian sections in recent years. The locals don't mind too much - they're happy to have new workers, and it's further proof that their town is the best in the World.
