Brightwater Bay

As you approach the bay, the water begins to shine. Magic from the Inner Seas pools with mineral-rich water from inland, poured into the bay by the dozens of giant waterfalls that surround it, creating waters more luminescent than anywhere else outside the Singing Sea. Brightwater Bay lies inside a sheltered natural harbor, shielded by overhanging rock formations and nourished by the mixing waters. Some stories claim it was originally a pirate hideaway, others a simple fishing village, and a few that it was discovered totally by accident after a vessel was blown off-course. Regardless of the truth, this once-humble village has grown to be one of the busiest ports in the World. Aside from the natural beauty and ease of life, there's an ability to disappear when you arrive in Brightwater. The overhanging cliffs shadow much of the city during the day, and the light of the water makes the night just as lively.

Points of interest

  • The One-Eyed Whale: The biggest and busiest joint in town, the One-Eyed Whale claims to be the first tavern built in Brightwater. Of course, much of the city went up in flames four-hundred years ago, so this claim is dubious at best. It's gained a reputation for strong drink, loud music, and top-notch entertainment shipped in from around the World. The first floor hosts a massive stage for the week's talent, seating for hundreds of diners, three full-service bars, and a section of glass floor to let the bay's light in during the night. The upper three levels are all rooms for rent, each bunk style, so as many inebriated sailors can be crammed in as possible.
  • Sharkfin Caverns: Sharkfin Caverns is an expansive network of natural tunnels that weave their way through the cliffs behind the city, connected directly to the bay by a large opening in the rocks shaped like a shark's fin. Many a pirate-king has taken refuge here in the past, but in modern times it's become a sort of town-within-a-town, developing its own districts and commerce separate from the rest of Brightwater. Entire neighborhoods are hidden inside the caverns, with their own businesses, homes, transport, and local politics. The people of Brightwater think of Sharkfin as a seedy place, where gambling, drinking, and smuggling are common. The locals will deny these charges, but they will freely admit the rum is better inside the caves than out.
