Muffel ([mʌfl])
The Echani's culture was embroidered on tapestries and tattooed on skin. Mostly, however, it was passed down orally.
Aiding in this endeavour were Muffels. They were small, intelligent mammals with fur and feathers in white, black and grey shades and beady black eyes that always seemed to watch you. Children found them cute and often asked their parents to keep them as pets if they caught one, but adults knew better than to be anywhere near them.
While completely benign, Muffels were mimic animals with incredible retention abilities and an impossibly long lifespan, able to live several hundred years without showing any sign of decline in their health. Most importantly, however, they repeated everything that they heard with their large ears. Muffels could repeat information heard on one side of Eshan fast enough that people on the opposite side of the planet will have heard it in less than a day.
Most of the stories, gossip, and history from thousands of years ago are still repeated in modern-day Eshan, especially if you come across an older group of Muffels, distinguished by the green tinge on the tips of their ears and tails.
Basic Information
Ecology and Habitats
Muffels live in the subarctic and equatorial regions of Eshan, mostly in cities, near lakes, or near geothermal heat sources.
Dietary Needs and Habits
Their diet consists mostly of insects and wildflowers or fruits that grow near their homes. They seem to have a preference for insects that glow.
