Velvet
Velvet is a luxurious textile that is generally made from Silk. The fabric produced is smooth to the touch and, when made of silk, often has an excellent sheen. The price of Velvet is particularly high largely due to it being made of silk, which is expensive in its own right, but also due to the complicated process that is required to produce velvet. Velvet is most commonly produced by loom weaving processes or even by hand for more complicated fabric patterns and styles. Velvet fabric is distinct due to the "piles" woven into it which are of protruding cut fibre loops. The piles are created by the weaving of two separate pieces of fabric at once, with a separate thickness of warp and weft fibre. The warp (the fibre that goes over and under the weft reciprocally) is weaved through both pieces of fabric before being cut to separate them, thus creating the piles in the process.
