Osteruna Dynasty
The Osteruna Dynasty is a family native to the lands of Doria and have particular influence with the Grand Duchy of Canyndor where they have long held the title of Surcount of Ilkweir. The dynasty consists of several smaller branches which hold minor title throughout the Grand Duchy, though none truly rival the power of the Osterunas of Ilkweir.
The heraldry of the Ostruna family dates back to its lineage with the old Kingdom of Ilkarda formed by Ardic migrants from the north. It is said that a loyal banner of the King of this Ardic kingdom would travel south from Bolot, in search of new prosperous land for his master. Upon a small river that flowed from the mountains, he would come across a plum tree ripe with fruit despite it being the winter season. The banner lord took this as a sign of fertility in the land, settling it in the name of his lord. It is said this banner lord is the common ancestor of the Osteruna dynasty, and his progeny would eventually convert to the Doric tradition of The Hallowed Faith thus leading to the common heraldry of the Osteruna family being that of the black rhomboid symbolising the realm of the gods, held up by a plum tree on a field of red.
An interesting element of the Osteruna's family is their tradition of naming their male children in a very specific manner in accordance with the right of inheritance. Though likely borrowed from local Boloti culture, the practice has been particularly present in the primary male line of the dynasty. This tradition dictates that the firstborn son of the dynasty head should be named Veli, the second Vilho, the third Vaijo and so on. This practice has led to the number of rulers of the Osteruna dynasty named "Veli" being of an abnormally high number as compared to other families and regions even where similar traditions exist.
