Dameon Grey

Dameon Grey

Dameon was born on the 5th of Terra in the sick bay on the shores of Eryndor. His mother was infamous pirate captain, Captain Veilwake, and his father was rumoured to be a rival pirate captain. Because she concealed her pregnancy and wanted Dameon to be safe, his life was entrusted to Veilwake's brother Talren and her second mate Kestrel.   Kestrel and Talren brought Dameon to Hariel's Rest in the Abyssal Plane, where he remained until adulthood. There he was taught how to survive in the chaotic plane. Talren told Dameon tales of his mother while Kestrel trained him for survival and combat. It wasn't easy and to this day, he can't sleep without a source of light nearby.   After gaining independence, Dameon, Kestrel, and Talren traveled to the Azure Citadel in Eryndor, where the trio became part of the official Free Flags crew. However, when Dameon learned that his mother was captured during a naval skirmish and brought to Varanthia, he decided to join the Onyx Circle, hoping that the connections and information he establishes will lead to a reunion with her. Talren gave Veilwake's compass to Dameon as a parting gift. Dameon isn't sure what he wants once he meets his mother again, and doubts that she will even recognize him due to their disconnect and how he's aged from living in the Abyssal Plane, but he still longs to see her and ensure her safety.   Dameon's induction into the Onyx Circle was traumatic. He was assigned to kill one of the following: a member of the Free Flags, an unknown woman, or a man that was named a good husband. Choosing to kill the husband, the Onyx Circle also ordered an assassination on Kestrel, a symbol of the end of Dameon's life with the Free Flags and the culmination of his banishment from them.   The loss of Kestrel was devastating and led to Dameon becoming jaded at the idea of affection towards anyone from then on, refusing to get close to people in a deep and meaningful way. All of his situationships since then are shallow and superficial, only seeking the thrill of a hook up or conquest. He focuses on work and becoming more efficient at it.   The survivor, the unknown women, named Irrine, was a fellow recruit of the Onyx Circle, and eventually became Dameon's shadow. He feels burdened by her and her presence often stirs feelings of shame and grief that he tries desperately to tamp down. She's grateful to him for sparing her and has made many attempts at camaraderie, but Dameon keeps her at arms length. She's ultimately a terrible Onyx Knight, which leads to frustration as Dameon needs her to succeed.   Despite his tumultuous past, Dameon can be very playful and humorous in his interactions with others. He cares about his appearance and makes sure to be well-groomed, sometimes coming across as vain. He conceals his self-doubts with overconfidence and arrogance. Unless on a job, he's very flirty with women. While a womanizer as a way to cope with his trauma and mommy issues, he puts emphasis on consent. At times he may pursue a woman as a conquest, but he rarely sleeps with them more than once, leaving multiple one-night stands and broken hearts in his wake.

History

Irrine’s connection with Dameon began in blood, woven in violence and tempered by silence. She recalls the night he spared her with a clarity that bruises each memory—the metallic tang of spilled blood, the blade shaking in his grip as he chose her survival over another’s. From that harrowing moment she became his shadow, trailing after him like the ghost of a decision never fully understood. At first, their interactions burned cold with unspoken resentment, but gradually her persistent questions and his reluctant guidance shaped an uneasy partnership. Each mission deepened Irrine’s quiet devotion, solidifying her belief that their bond—though born of brutality—could eventually be reforged into something strong and true.

Nicknames & Petnames

Irrine rarely dares to address Dameon informally, but privately calls him “Mentor” in a reverent whisper, the word carrying the gravity of both admiration and regret. He refers to her solely as “Shadow,” though she sometimes imagines she hears traces of fondness in his curt tone.

Relationship Reasoning

To Irrine, Dameon symbolizes not just survival but redemption—a living testament to her second chance. She seeks his approval as a means to validate her existence, desperate to transform the life he spared into something worthy of sacrifice. His mentorship provides direction; she sees in him the strength and decisiveness she lacks and believes following his example might eventually silence her own doubt.

Commonalities & Shared Interests

They share a quiet understanding of loyalty and survival, each scar earned in training drills silently testifying to mutual resilience. Dameon’s strict combat discipline and Irrine’s desire for self-control weave together into joint practices where their blades move in perfect rhythm. They share a silent appreciation of tactical precision, rarely needing spoken words to execute complex maneuvers. In quieter moments, Dameon’s guarded stories of ocean currents and storm skies captivate Irrine; she listens closely, hungry for glimpses of freedom and horizons beyond shadows.

History

Shadow Fang observed Dameon long before the initiate recognized his mask in candlelight, identifying him as potential tempered in the Abyss’s fire. Their meeting was pragmatic, devoid of warmth, defined entirely by measured evaluations—heartbeat steadiness, reflex precision, emotional restraint. He offered instruction through clipped directives and ruthless correction, molding the Targon’s natural talents into weapons sharper than steel. Trust was forged not from affection but from consistent outcomes: successful missions, subtle assassinations, and adherence to Onyx Circle doctrine. Over time, Shadow Fang catalogued each success and flaw, marking Dameon as both promising asset and potential liability, a blade sharpened to dangerous clarity.

Nicknames & Petnames

Shadow Fang uses no petnames, only Dameon’s surname, “Grey,” spoken in tones that shift between instruction and subtle critique. Dameon, in return, never dares familiarity, only calling him “Mentor” when strict Circle etiquette demands formality.

Relationship Reasoning

Shadow Fang sees Dameon as a crucial experiment, a test-case of his own teachings—can absolute emotional detachment be instilled, or will sentiment fracture under strain? Dameon represents the promise of “motion without identity,” a principle Shadow Fang preaches relentlessly. Yet beneath this cold assessment lies an unspoken curiosity about the Targon’s hidden lineage, a puzzle the Mentor quietly probes during each training session. Dameon’s success or failure in the Circle’s crucible reflects directly upon Shadow Fang’s own skill and doctrine.

Commonalities & Shared Interests

Their commonality is stark discipline, an unyielding devotion to precision, and respect for silence as a strategic tool. Neither tolerates wasteful movement nor excess words; every interaction strips away needless pretense. They share an appreciation for tactical nuance—clean kills, meticulous planning, flawless execution—and an unspoken belief in ruthless efficiency as a form of art. Shadow Fang trains Dameon in knife forms that seem to dance as much as they cut, movements distilled to pure utility. Their relationship, thus, is defined by shared expertise, mutual discipline, and a carefully maintained emotional distance that only sharpens their respective edges.

Crater Eaves - Part 2

Cragstone Heart. Show caution between buildings. Xhag to be scout. Irrine guards the kid. Otherwise, continue as normal. No need to stress the kid out.   Xhag reported a lack of magic. Xavier says it's unusual. Probably has to do with the rock. I've been having issues casting magic since being around it.   Since I found the feather over by that area, might as well check over there first.   New face. A cragdram named Marro Thay. Marro manages the Well-Yard and Inn. Xena asked what services we can provide. He needs that ice machine fixed.   Something something conduit malfunction and he's got a manual that's been tampered with. Looks like we gotta go question this "Serenity" Verve. She runs the Star-Scratch, some glass coaster business across the way.   Marro says he hasn't seen any other Cragdram here. Guess Xhag and I will have a look around where I found the feather.   Found something buried. A bear trap. Marro says he used it for one of the great Ursaring migrations. Was on his wall. Now it's set and buried. Strange.   Xena and Xavier are headed over to the Star-Scratch. Xhag and I will check upstairs. Marro advised us to cover our mouths and noses due to black mold.   Long hall. Five rooms on either side. Ten rooms total. We'll start at the end and work our way back.   Ah grim. Xhag fell through the floor. Guess we'll just stick to searching the ground floor.   One of the rooms that has a window overlooking Crater Eaves has evidence of a scout. Five individuals.   Marro claims no one's been to the inn for the last three weeks.   ...Xhag thinks sneaky people travel through windows? But why? Can't be this window. It's too damn loud. They could have just walked in through the door. Marro certainly has missed a lot.   Royals back. Xavier apparently feels the need to critique my dressing of Xhag's wound....   There's a basement.   Marro was meeting with Serenity and other individuals. Brother Loom had his coat. He's a trap collector. Missing two traps. 1 - a lank wire made by teeth of a beast, hard to see, trip trap. 2 - object that sets ranged weapons like bows and firearms.   Marro is also...a mould farmer?   Okay, Xena made him go outside and frolick in the field or something. Time to check the mould-infested basement.

Crater Eaves - Part 1

That's a big hole. That's a big rock.   The drivers are gonna stay at the rim while we go in deeper.   Wonder why the kid likes this rock so much. I'll just ask him.   ...I can't hear him, he's gotta speak up. Oh great, that just made him quieter. Ugh, I just wanna know what's up with the rock. Maybe he can tell me later.   Irrine thinks it's cool, too? ...Huh. I can kinda see it now that she threw somethin' at it. What does water do to it?   ....We've been here for a while. Hmm, I don't know what the kid is writing. Where's Irrine?   What was *that*? I'll leave Irrine with the kid, she has to have seen that, too.   ...Damnit. A feather?! This isn't right.... Grim, I gotta get back to Irrine.   What is happening? Were we set up? It doesn't make sense for this to happen in the middle of a mission. But it can't be a mistake. It's completely intentional. (Inner monologue continues...)   Prince and Princess have joined us. I have to tell Xhag what's happening. Where is he? ...He's depressed? Damnit, I need to find him before something happens.   ...Have I been that hard on him? Or...am I completely dismissing his efforts? *BIG SIGH* I should probably...let him know. He's doing fine.   Of course he would think this is an honor. He has to understand how strange it is though.   Wait a minute. Cragstone Heart... A Cragdram Onyx Knight that's had it out for me since day 1. Perhaps he's behind it. Come to think of it, that...that must have been him.   I have a bad feeling about this.

Run to Fort Marrow - Part 1

Morning of...Gonna take a seat next to the second carriage's driver while Xhag takes the front of the line. Irrine's next to the first carriage's driver.   God I have such a hangover.   Caldus isn't so bad. At least he keeps to himself for the most part.   Dust Devil approaching.... What do we do about that, exactly? ...The kid said to avoid forests and just stick to an open area and avoid it. Alright, seems simple enough. We'll have to rely on Xhag's eyes to know where its path is, but between the rest of us, I'm sure we can avoid it.   Just barely managed to drive around it. Ugh, I'm covered in sand. Yuck.   Fucking dumbass Xavier that stupid lil shit- I HOPE YOU HAVE SAND IN YOUR ASS CRACK. I HOPE IT SEEPS INTO THE DEEPEST CREVICES OF YOUR SOLES. I HOPE YOU'RE BRUSHING IT FROM YOUR HAIR FOR DAYS. I HOPE-   Hmm...the younger prince wants to stop in this nearby town. I suppose it wouldn't hurt to take a break here. It's relatively safe from what I understand. I could also use a drink....   ...Irrine asked when my birthday is. Guess I forgot to tell her it was last month.... When we were...yeah. Being "reconditioned."   Man, it's getting hot. Firra weather, and it looks like none of the royals here have prepared for it. Typical.   What's this? A toll to cross a bridge? Doesn't seem right.... This guy is sketchy. And of course the princess had to reveal her royal insignia. Geez, now this got a lot more complicated. So the bridge has some kind of drop mechanism that the monk controls. Wait, that's not a monk...? What the...what the frak is that....

23 Firra - Part 2

What's this? A chance to voice my unfiltered opinion of Prince Xavier to someone? Don't mind if I do.... I'm sure this will have some kind of consequence for him later.   Following the mission briefing with Master Shadow Fang, we've split up to gain information about the area we're traveling for the next three days. Likely gonna deal with Lord Gaeland's men. There is an abandoned watchtower and villages that may have loyalties to either Lord Gaeland or Queen Aillsa. Not sure if we should just present ourselves as a neutral party, I'm sure Xhag will be happy to announce us as the Onyx Circle at any point....   Oh great, Irrine invited Prince Xavier to meet with us. ...What does she mean it was my idea? Ah god how am I gonna explain this? The more the merrier? That sounded less stupid in my head....   This guy's attitude is really starting to piss me off.... Telling us to report our findings to him? And he won't accept my drink that I bought with my own money? Questioning Xhag's capabilities undermines mine and Irrine's. Doesn't he know that if I wanted to kill him, I would have already done it? I mean, really. *I would have done it.*   Frax, Irrine. That was...*ahem* not what I expected from her.   I guess I'll explain to him how he completely screwed me over with my Mark.... Man, he's obtuse. But ugh, lay it all on the table because I'd rather us have open communication if we're gonna be working together. As a matter of fact, Prince Xavier can be my subordinate for the mission. That way, he reports to me and any kill he manages can be my assist. And if he screws up-   Hmm? What was that?   ...Ah. Princess Xena. Of course.   What the hell? Why are you asking me why I chose this dump, the frax if I know? Cuz it was nearby? Raven, don't make me punt a child....   Okay, so Princess Xena said that there will be an ambush on the road. At least the rest of us figure it will likely be beyond the third ridge crossing, where the road narrows between two cliffs.   I'm wondering if I should rope the princes together....like literally leash them to each other. Would that be worthwhile?

23 Firra - Part 1

Today started out like usual...paying to keep my nightly rendezvous a secret. Why am I negotiating with terrorists? It's extortion! I'm literally down to my last bits at this point.   Finally was given a mission, and it's chaperoning the royal pains in the ass from last time, plus one extra.   Raven is clearly testing me since my last failure....   At least both Xhag and Irrine are joining m-   Hold on. When did I consider that a good thing? Frax, what have the last couple months done to me? I need to order Xhag to eat the breakfast Irrine cooked....
