Session 2: The Rat’s Trail

  In the morning, additional heroes joined the party.   The party set out from Windsor Farm, following the Rat’s Trail found by Imaranger. Two hours into their trek, they were interrupted by a diminutive female voice cursing. Investigating, they found a tiny person with iridescent pale green skin, large pale blue eyes, and butterfly wings. She was stuck under a heavy branch, and after a brief pause, the heroes rescued her from the branch. Her name was Alina, and as a “reward” she led the party to a nearby clearing where two other creatures were preparing to play a game.   Gerlaine was a small humanoid with dark brown skin and large black eyes. Citron was a small humanoid that appeared to be carved from dark wood and covered with tree bark. The heroes joined the card game, which seemed to be as much about arguing as cards. After several hands were won and lost, the heroes recalled their quest to chase the rats and departed.   Back on the Rat’s Trail, the heroes noted it was much later in the day than expected. A few hours later, in the late afternoon, they smelled the smoke of a campfire, and jogged up to two men sitting at a campfire.   Imaranger: Hello, have you seen any large rats?   Youzrug: (loudly) Hello, you certainly are a large, well-armed group. What is your large, well-armed group doing here in the woods?   Imaranger: We are looking for really large rats. Have you seen any?   Youzrug: (loudly) Always happy to help a large, well-armed group. Go to the village of Seny, where the rats came from, and ignore our poor small camp.   Players clamor, and start moving their tokens into the campsite.   GM: Select your token and roll initiative. {turn order sorted}   Then the two men at the campfire “disappeared,” their clothes and possessions slumping into a pile. Small dark forms darted from the clothes piles to hide amongst the nearby rocks and bushes.   Next, the heroes noticed some other men and giant rats hiding in the bushes surrounding the campsite. After shooting a few with arrows and spells, they decided negotiations were concluded and got busy attacking the men and rats.   The melee was short and the heroes were victorious, soundly defeating their foes, though after the initial volley of arrows several heroes were injured.   The dead men were searched; they were ragged and skinny and their gear was in poor condition (worthless). Some copper and silver pieces were recovered among a few other trinkets.
