The Sundar

Structure

A collection of Cities ruled by two twin Despots of equal power, the Sun god Juliar and Moon god Marel, both these rule with kindness and cruelty in equal measure. The High-elves of Luma are Patriarchal, they study art and sciences. Here the government bellow Juliar are made up of scholars and intellectuals. The Dark-elves of Umbra are Matriarchal, they focus on Martial prowess and cunning. Here under Marel the government are organized along military lines with a General Staff, military courts and so forth.

Public Agenda

The Sundar seek to maintain balance in the world. They seek to keep chaos at bay by defeating the monsters that spill forth into their land. They care little for the squabbles of the mayflies of Renata.

Assets

As they live for hundreds of years the scholars of the Sundar are the best educated, their warriors the best trained, their artist the most skillful, their artisans the most productive. This is lucky, because their lands are poor in resources, and were it not for the tenacity of the elves.

History

The Sundar were always somewhat different to the other parts of the Ordering given the peculiar dual nature of the Elves. As such it was not surprising when they broke away during the Breakdown of Order in 1322. They were the last major province to break away from the old Order. At that time Juliar and Marel assumed absolute power and divided the Sundar nation between them. They have since maintained a state of near isolation, repelling the occasional Collective raid and otherwise minding their own business.

Demography and Population

The population of Sundar is concentrated around the two main cities. More remote provinces are sparsely inhabited. Elves live in cycles, and most elves will move between the two main cities many times over the course of their lives.

Territories

The territory of the Sundar covers most of the western parts of Pelagus.

Military

The military forces of the Sundar are concentrated in the standing army at Umbra.

Religion

The worship of the twin gods Juliar and Marel is the most common faith. The elves follow a semi-religious cycle where they will move from Umbra to Luma and vice-versa once every century or so. The cities follow opposite styles of rule, and the change can be jarring. However, most elves adhere to the cycle, believing they will go mad if they do not obey the cycle.

Agriculture & Industry

Elven agriculture is concentrated in the fertile lands around Luma. There is significant production of goods in both main cities.

Trade & Transport

There is some trade with Apex.

Mythology & Lore

The elves are locked in a cycle between light and dark, patriarchy and matriarchy that they cannot escape from.
