Wild Mountain Adventure Park
Deep in the woods, just outside of state park land, there is a graveyard filled with great steel skeletons- the bones of a fairground that never came to fruition. Roller coasters rise to the tree line and an ancient Ferris wheel looms out of the soft gloom, silent and still. The shell of the Adventure Lodge sits at the edge of the land, mostly built but never complete. Few things move through the park, and the eerie emptiness has lead to tales of hauntings and cryptids that lurk here.
Purpose / Function
Wild Mountain Adventure Park was slated to make Red Oak Bluffs a destination town for theme park tourists. The pitch had been simple, or perhaps simplistic: you could pair a stay in the state park with a day at the Adventure Park. After a long hike or a week of camping, people could cap their trip with a bit of Adventure™.
Defenses
A twelve foot chain link fence surrounds the remains of the park, warded by a feeble "No Trespassing" sign. It has no other defenses or protections, within or without.
History
Construction began quickly after approval. Rumor has it that money exchanged hands to allow construction without proper surveys of the land. At the very least, this would explain the numerous accidents that harried the project at every turn. Freak accidents happened with perplexing regularity. Multiple floods plagued the Adventure Lodge. Cranes broke, sink holes sucked down equipment, bulldozers burnt out, workers regularly quit without warning. In hindsight, the string of incidents should have been seen as a result of poor planning. Instead, construction forged ahead until the project went fully bankrupt just before the park could be completed. The site was abandoned, and legal entanglements have left the land untouchable.
Tourism
Despite its location, or perhaps because of it and the air of mystery it evokes, the dead park draws a fair number of ghost hunters and paranormal investigators. Entering the area is trespassing, so all visits are furtive, generally done under the cover of night.
