Blackwell Fisheries

Blackwell Fisheries is a large complex that primarily raises and harvests fish on a commercial scale. It is also known for its prodigious Research and Development laboratories, which host a surprising number of scientists for this small community. A good portion of Red Oak Bluffs works for the fishery, either directly through its commercial work, or indirectly through the many tendrils that the company sends out in the forms of contract work, deliveries, and other projects across every field.   Despite many people relying on Blackwell Fisheries for their livelihoods, the company has a mixed reputation in town, though complaints are rarely voiced above a dark mutter. Thanks to heavy investment into public relations, the shadowy side projects and many incidents at this company are swiftly swept under the rug.

History

Blackwell Fisheries began as a pure fishery. With a huge investment from the Blackwell family, a fleet of fishing boats were purchased to harvest the coastal waters. These boats were given strict itineraries, and sometimes sent to places that were known to be poor fishing. The company was not prosperous in the early years, but the Blackwells kept pumping in money to make up for the drastic losses. Despite the decent to poor catches, the company kept growing. Just as people were taking notice of the disconnect between growth and performance, the company set up hatcheries outside Red Oak Bluffs, along with some new processing plants. With the combination of hatchery and fishery, the company began to see organic growth in profits, mainly from their work with salmon. As the operation grew, advanced research facilities were added to the campus, bringing in scientists of many fields from all over the world. Now, Blackwell Fisheries is a multi-billion dollar company, with connections to nearly every industry, but presented as a humble fish processing and export center.
