Backroads Beast

Truckers stopping in town sometimes pass along tales of their encounter with a large, hairy creature that harries their vehicle on the old logging roads. The beast is said to attack between the street lights, slashing at cables and brake lines when the truck passes into darkness, keeping pace with the speeding truck until it hits the next pool of light. Drivers attribute several crashed semis to the beast, but locals have begun to view these stories like tales of gremlins: a layer of fantasy to cover for improperly securing the cargo or poor maintenance.   Park rangers who investigate crash sites dutifully log- but never speak about- the clear signs of cut wires and rent metal.
